Dakota Boys and Girls Basketball Teams Open Season with Wins

It was a win-win opener for 's varsity basketball teams Tuesday, with both the girls and boys teams defeating their opponents and starting their respective seasons at 1-0.

The Dakota girls defeated White Lake Lakeland by a score of 46-36. The Cougars were led by with 10 points, five assists and four steals. Teammate Jessica Mabry added nine points of her own, with Kylie Townsley contributing another eight points, five rebounds and four steals. Kylie Churches and Olivia Savage scored another eight and seven points each.

The Cougar boys logged their first win of the season the same night by defeating Madison Heights 87-64. Scoring was led by D.J. Lazarus with 21 points and four steals, with Andrew Burmeister and Lindsay Thomas adding another 15 points each. Scott Miller led with six assists.
