Dakota Girls Hoops Stays in MAC Red Race

New and improved Pick of the Week takes sports fans back to the week that was, and ahead to the best matchups.

First of all, let me start out by saying a big “Thank You” to everyone who e-mailed in response to last week’s . The response was really good, and as a result, this little column is going to be better.

Please keep these comments, suggestions and ideas coming.

Without your help, I can’t recognize any of the outstanding efforts put in by athletes all over the area—from the little ones all the way to our senior citizens. Everyone has a place on Patch.com, and in this column.

A Look Back

  • Head coach Phil McCune kept his girls hoops squad in the hunt for a Macomb Area Conference Red with a very big win over Romeo High this past week. At 5-4 in the division, the Lady Cougars are only a game back of division-leading Utica Ford and Stevenson High.
  • We want to make sure to mention the great effort the Cougars gave this season on the mat. The wrestling squad fell in the team this week, but had a great season nonetheless.
  • Kudos to LCN’s competitive cheer squad who currently find themselves on top of the MAC Blue. Rah! Rah! Rah!

A Look Ahead

  • We’d be downright crazy not to include this one—Dakota vs. Chippewa Valley boys basketball Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at Chippewa Valley. It was a crazy-close game (the Big Reds won 54-53) the first time these two teams met, and we expect more of the same this time around. Be sure to check it out.
  • Nope, you’re not seeing double. The girls hoops squads face off the same day, Feb. 15, beginning at 5:30 p.m. I can’t imagine a better doubleheader than this one!
  • Dakota at LCN boys basketball, Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. I know what you’re thinking—“Why this game?” Well, simple, I was at the game they played earlier this season and it was a flat-out battle. I know they’re both out of the division race, but that doesn’t take away how entertaining this game can be.
