Macombers Laamanen, Bielecki Lend Hand to Wayne State

Macomb Township's Mike Laamanen and Zak Bielecki are on the roster for the Wayne State football team, which will play for the Division II national championship on Saturday.

A pair of Macomb Township residents could be part of a national championship team by Saturday afternoon.

graduate Mike Laamanen and alum Zak Bielecki are both on the roster for the Wayne State football team, which will take on Pittsburg State in the Division II national championship game on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Florence, AL.

Laamanen, a sophomore defensive end, has played in 14 games. He has made eight tackles and two sacks. He also broke up two passes, and he returned one kickoff for 12 yards.

Laamanen recorded a tackle in Wayne State’s 21-14 victory over Winston-Salem State in the semifinals on Dec. 10.

Bielecki, a freshman free safety, has not played in a game this season.
