Macomb Hockey Player Invited to Showcase Skills in All-American Prospects Game

This game will give Mike McCarron the opportunity to show off his talent as one of the top American-born players eligible for the 2013 NHL Draft.

A Macomb Township athlete has been selected to play in the inaugural CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in New York.

Seventeen-year-old Mike McCarron will be one of 40 players to showcase their skills on the ice Sept. 29 at the home of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres.

The Prospects Game is designed to show off the talent of some of the top American-born players available for the 2013 NHL Draft. Under the NHL structure, players born between Jan. 1, 1993 and Sept. 15, 1995 are eligible to be selected in next year's draft.

McCarron, who previously played with the U.S. National Under-17 team, originally committed to continuing his hockey career at Michigan State University, but MiHockeyNow.com reports McCarron will instead be joining his older brother at Cornell University.

“We’re excited to participate in this new showcase for America’s best young hockey players,” said USHL President and Commissioner Skip Prince, in a prepared statement. “We’re also honored that more than 80% of these outstanding young prospects have direct ties to the USHL’s 16 Member Clubs, including the NTDP.  There is going to be great hockey played this fall in Buffalo.”
