5 Family-Friendly Things to Do This Weekend

Staying around Macomb Township this weekend? Here are five ideas to get the family out of the house.

The National Weather Service is predicting this weekend will be a scorcher, with temperatures hitting 90 on Saturday and topping out at 88 degrees on Sunday.

While it may be tempting to stay in the A/C, there are lots of events taking place outdoors this weekend offering fun for the whole family. Here are five:

  1. Spend a day poolside, or at the beach. From Lake St. Clair Metropark to Stony Creek, Macomb County's beaches and swimming pools are open for the season.
  2. It's the last weekend for the . The fair is located in the Sterling Center Shopping Center on the west side of Schoenherr Road, just south of Hall Road. A $20 armband will give you unlimited access to all fair rides for a whole day and night. The fair is open noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
  3. Washington Township will hold its third annual Art & Orchard Festival this weekend, with fireworks, antique shows, live music, food and much more. Most events are free. . 
  4. Residents can fish all weekend long without a license. Across the state, communities are organizing activities to encourage participation for the weekend. On June 9, St. Clair County will host 'River Day', where the community is invited to come out and enjoy all the different bodies of water that the County has to offer, including Anchor Bay. Various activities such as canoe trips, picnics, bike rides along the water and much more will be held.   5. Take the kids to meet . The zoo is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $14 for adults age 15-61, $9 for children age 2-14 and $12 for seniors 62 and older. Children under 2 are free. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
