Leaving Macomb Township for Memorial Day? Here's What You Need to Know

The weather: Prepare for thunderstorms

Around Macomb Township, the National Weather Service forecasts a chance of thunderstorms with a high of 80 degrees. Temperatures are predicted to hit 78 and 88 degrees, respectively, Saturday and Sunday, with a chance of rain and thunderstorms continuing through Memorial Day, which may hit 90 degrees.

Across Michigan the weather are similar. The chance of thunderstorms continues through the weekend from the west side of the state up to the Mackinac Bridge. Temperatures are expected to cool as you head farther north, but the highs should remain in the high 70s, possibly hitting the 80s, through Memorial Day.

The gasoline report: Here's where to fill up

The cheapest gas in Macomb Township can be found at the Kroger Fuel Centers at and , where gas between $3.67 and $3.70 Thursday night.

But if you just want to get out of town and don't want to take the time to fill up before leaving, know that the Macomb Township-area gas stations are only slightly lower than the average Detroit gas station price ($3.73) and Michigan average ($3.78).

Seven gas stations in the city of Clare, which some consider the borderline between "Up North" and everywhere else, reported gas prices ranging from $3.75 to $3.78 on Thursday evening — though don't try to make it all the way from here to there before filling up.

Construction: MDOT lifts work on 94 of 132 projects statewide

Beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday and continuing until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Transportation is suspending road work wherever possible.

Don't worry about your trash

Garbage and curbside recycling pickup will be delayed one day for the entire week of May 28. There will be no pickup on Memorial Day.

When you return

You're likely to return Monday to sunny skies and more warmth; a high of 90 is predicted. You can take time to enjoy it — most of the grocery stores are open their normal hours on Monday night, so don't feel like you have to rush to run your typical end-of-weekend errands.
