PHOTOS: 900 Plus 'Run the Plank' in Macomb Township's First 5K Race
More than 900 runners and walkers participated in Macomb Township's first 5K Saturday, June 30, racing north on Romeo Plank Road from 21 Mile to 24 Mile Road.
Even before the first runners left the starting line, Run the Plank organizers proclaimed Macomb Township's first 5K an unprecedented success.
"This day has been one of the dreams of mine for many, many years," said Associate Pastor Greg Griffith. "One of the greatest joys has been to see that one of the passions at Immanuel is also at St. Isidore and St. Peter ... It is a joy to see the unity of a community."
Hosted by , and , this community-wide run/walk was the first of its kind in Macomb, but Griffith said it won't be the last.

With 918 registered runners and walkers, County Executive and race participant Mark Hackel described the race as "one of the best first-time events I've ever seen."
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Macomb Intermediate School District’s Homeless Education Project, while shoe donations, collected for Soles4Souls, will be recycled and distributed to children and adults in need around the world. As of Saturday, Griffith said more than 3,500 pairs of shoes had been collected.
