Summer Hospice Volunteering

Looking for something to do this summer? How about making a difference in someone's life? VOLUNTEER!

The following was written by one of our Great Lakes Caring Hospice Volunteers, Sue, a member of your community!

My experience thus far has been more rewarding than I initially imagined, and I only wish I could devote more time to my patients. They have been vibrant and tender, and each has their own story and unique way of showing they value one’s time spent with them. Establishing a level of comfort with one another through conversation and shared, peaceful moments may take a little time, but is so well worth it. I’m honored to have been given this chance to meet and spend time with people when they may need it most, and only hope they know somehow that they’re giving me so much more in return.

Great Lakes Caring Hospice is looking for more volunteers like Sue. Volunteers are involved in a number of ways: provide companionship to patients, assist the office staff, plan and assist with events such as tea parties, or make special items for our patients such as blankets and pillows. Hours are flexible and training is provided.

If you have some extra time this summer and are looking to get involved in your community, consider becoming a hospice volunteer with Great Lakes Caring Hospice. Volunteers must be 17 or older. If interested, please call Megan Carolin at 586-468-8580.
