UPDATE: Looking for Macomb Area Summer Camps? Use This Guide

From soccer to show choir, there are dozens of summer programs available to area youth.

Schools almost out, which means it's time to start thinking "summer camp."

Here are a few camps to consider in Macomb Township and the greater Metro Detroit area.

Camp includes morning instruction at three stations (driving range, putting, chipping), plus rules and etiquette, games, lunch and nine holes of golf in the afternoon. A certified instructor will accompany each foursome. The cost includes lunch, green fees, range balls, a collared golf shirt and three TGA logo golf balls.

Macomb Township will play host to a group of British footballers the week of July 23 as they coach hundreds of local kids as part of the British Soccer Camps provided by Challenger Sports. Through British coaching methods, players hone their skills with technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages and daily tournaments offered as part of the camp.

Macomb Community CollegeDrama Workshop

Open to elementary, middle and high school students, this workshop teaches drama skills from theater professionals such as Lou Fazzini, director and founder of All The World's A Stage. The workshop concludes with a performance on July 20.

  • Ages: Grades 1-12
  • Cost: Students in first and second grade are $120, while all others are $195. A discount is available if paid in full by June 1.

Macomb Community CollegeShow Choir Workshop

During this weeklong workshop, students learn vocal technique, song interpretation and dance from professional choreographers and vocal coaches. The week of workshops culminates in a grand finale performance, for which students can audition for solos.

  • Cost: $235 per student, but there is a $20 discount if paid in full by June 3.

Shepherd’s Gate Lutheran Church5-Day Camp

The day camp includes climbing activities such as wall climbing, crafts, low ropes, slingshot, water activities, euro-bungee, flying squirrel, silly games and much more, courtesy of SpringHill Camps. Joey D’s Summer Adventure Camps

Joe Dumars offers a series of traditional and celebrity sports camps along with a wide variety of non-sports programs designed to challenge children mentally as well as physically. Visit the website for a complete listing of camps.

Wolcott Mill Metropark Day Camps

Farmer’s Camp: Campers will collect eggs in the chicken coop and help with various other farm chores. They will also go on a farm tour, make crafts, play outdoor games, learn about horse care and go on a wagon ride.

Art Camp: Discover creativity in the outdoors through art by making a collage, learning about special painting techniques, and going on a photography walk. Bring a picnic lunch.

Old-Time Crafts and Chores Camp: Investigate the life of a Michigan settler in the 1820s. Learn what these early Americans encountered, how they made a home and other necessities for survival, and what kids of that time period did for fun. Bring a lunch.

4-H Green Science Adventure Camp (MSU Extension)

What is Green Science you ask? It’s the use of science in our daily lives. Participants explore these questions and more while inquiring about the world around them. Educational activities are led by trained staff and certified teachers and are aligned with the state grade level content expectations. Participants experience science and take charge of their learning hands on, (and they won’t even realize it).

Stony Creek Metropark Day Camps

Nature’s Child Day Camp I: Meet live animals, catch a fish, take a tractor-drawn wagon ride, paddle a 34-foot canoe, do science experiments and go on nature adventures. Lunch and snack will be provided each day.

Ages: 8-12

Cost: $95 per child

Adventures in Science Camp: Become a nature detective and discover “who done it?” during the “Animal CSI” day, have crazy science fun and do wacky experiments with mad scientist, Dr. D. Mented and learn outdoor survival techniques and put them to practice out in nature. Lunch and snack will be provided each day.

Lake St. Clair Metropark Day Camps

Nature Day Camp – Meet the Animals: Meet amphibians, reptiles and birds, and discover fun facts about them all. Hands-on activities and hikes will be a part of the program.

Fish Camp: Discover fun facts about Michigan fish through hands-on activities, learn fishing techniques, make a fish print T-shirt and try to catch a fish. Fishing rods are provided, or bring your own. Bring a lunch and a white T-shirt to make a fish print on your shirt.
