Hey Macomb, Where is Your 'Up North'?

When summer in the city gets to be too much, where do you escape to in Michigan?

From Silver Lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes to Saugatuck and Caseville, our Great Lakes State has no shortage of summertime destinations and as Memorial Day weekend starts, you can bet the seasonal migration "Up North" will as well.

This weekend, many of us will lock up our suburban homes and head into the great outdoors. We'll grab our sleeping bags, Faygo and marshmallows and cross our fingers it doesn't rain where we're headed.

Our kids will complain about the drive, but the promise of a stop at that favorite ice cream shop will probably do the trick.

Some will head into the Thumb, while others will trek to the U.P. or head west to Lake Michigan. But for some unknown reason, regardless of where our final destination lies on the map, we'll say we're going "Up North".

So where is your "Up North"? Tell us in the comments, upload a photo, or plot a point on the map above showing where you go for a long summer weekend, or to escape from the heat and hustle of Hall Road in July.

How to Plot a Point on the Map

Show us where your "Up North" is by plotting a point on this interactive map.

Here's how:

  1. Click the "Add" button at the top right corner of the map.
  2. When the box pops up, type the name of your favorite place, or the town closest to it, in the Location field (example: Caseville, MI).
  3. Click "Submit" at the bottom of the pop-up and then close out of the box. Your point has now been added to the map.
