County Commissioners to Honor 55 'Outstanding Volunteers'

For the 22nd year, the Macomb County Board of Commissioners will recognize Macomb County's "most outstanding volunteers."

Nowhere is the phrase “actions speak louder than words” more applicable than in regard to the volunteers whose tireless energy and infinite generosity provide so many vital services to our communities.

For the 22nd year, the Macomb County Board of Commissioners will recognize these actions by honoring 55 of the county’s “.”

“Each year that I am involved with the volunteer awards, I come away with a deep appreciation for the people who so generously give of their time in this county,” said board of commissioners chair Kathy D. Vosburg, in a release. “The board and I are so grateful and proud of these individuals for their sense of community service.”

Each honoree recognized has donated at least 150 hours of his or her time to volunteer activities and is either a Macomb County resident or has performed volunteer work to benefit Macomb County citizens and communities.

Commissioner Joe Sabatini, whose District 13 includes Macomb Township, will recognize:

  • Mike Bates, basketball, 200 hours
  • Doreen Chorazyczewski, , 360 hours
  • Randy Lentini, St. Peter's Catholic Church, 150-plus hours
  • Bette Nebel, Higgins Elementary School, 200-plus hours
  • Michael Saigh, Sterling Heights Rotary Club and St. Therese of Lisieux Church, 300-plus hours

Commissioner Don Brown, whose District 7 includes Macomb Township, will recognize:

  • Robin Boeling, , 150-plus hours
  • Dobbie Kelley, The Village Assisted Living, 250-plus hours
  • Nancy Nevers, Shelby-Macomb Daybreakers Kiwanis, 200 hours
  • Maxine Sobetski, Head Start, 1,000-plus hours
  • Barbara Trbovich, Agape Center, 150-200 hours
  • Vincent Wagner, American Cancer Society Relay for Life and St. Baldrick's Foundation for Juvenile Cancer Research, 2,080 hours

The honorees will be recognized during a special presentation on June 23. The presentation will be part of the commissioners' regular meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. on the ninth floor of the Macomb County Administration Building, 1 S. Main, Mount Clemens.
