Homeless Children, Families Find Help Year-Round Through Macomb Twp. Nonprofit
The Macomb Charitable Foundation provides school supplies, holiday gifts, and more to area needy.
Several hundred children in Macomb County will spend the night crammed into one double bed with their siblings, in an area shelter, or perhaps even the family vehicle. A Macomb Township-based nonprofit is reaching out to help these kids and their families.
The Macomb Charitable Foundation helps about 800 homeless Macomb County children annually by providing financial assistance for everything from food, clothes, personal care items, rent, and more. They’ve been operating out of the township for 30 years, but obtained their nonprofit status eight years ago.
The school year is still young and the Foundation has already had 72 requests for assistance. They have not been able to help every child and are in need of kids’ clothes, gift cards, school supplies and more. To donate, mail gift cards to 18215 24 Mile Road, Macomb, 48042.

The holidays are also a busy time for the Macomb Charitable and they typically help about 450 kids.
“The need is greater than we can handle, but those we do assist are blessed by our supporters with a wonderful selection of new clothing, toys, and necessities,” said Shelly Penzien, Macomb Charitiable Foundation president.
