Immanuel Lutheran Students Pack 7,800 Pounds of Food for Gleaners
One week before the start of their own school year, Immanuel Lutheran students traveled to Gleaners to help pack 7,800 pounds of food to be used as meals by local children in need.
class gave up one of their last summer mornings this week to help volunteer in the Kids Helping Kids program at Gleaners Food Bank's Warren warehouse.
The students helped to pack 1,300 bags with six nutritional meals for local children as part of Gleaner's Hunger Free Summer program, which feeds more than 300,000 kids. Each bag contained one can of green beans, one can of applesauce, two cans of beef ravioli, two milk boxes and four crispy rice cereals.
The students took turns passing out the food, collecting the food and double-checking and tying the bags. At the end of the day, each participant received a band bracelet and a sticker reading, "I fed someone today."
