In Brief: MCC Students Take Alternative Spring Break with Macomb Habitat

Macomb Community College students are volunteering once again with Macomb Habitat for Humanity in an effort to eliminate substandard housing in the local community.

Two groups of Macomb Community College students will take an alternative spring break with Macomb Habitat for Humanity next week.

The groups will work with Macomb County Habitat to demolish one home in Eastpointe on Tuesday and complete work on another in Roseville on Saturday.

Equipped with sledgehammers and hard hats, the first group, led by MCC professor Rochelle Zaranek, will demolish a house at 22802 Saxony in Eastpointe.

The demolition day will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. The students will receive a safety discussion prior to beginning the demolition.

On Saturday, another group of students will carry out construction tasks at the house at 25255 Koontz in Roseville. Lauren Ellis, activities aide in the Department of Student Life and Leadership, is organizing some 30 additional students to participate in this project.

The work in Roseville will begin at 10 a.m. and include painting, installation of trim and floorboards, and cleaning in preparation for the final stages of construction.

MCC students previously partnered with Habitat on . On this day, volunteers visited three homes in Clinton Township and Warren to add their energies to the local effort to eliminate substandard housing.
