Library for the Blind Hosts Summer Tech Classes for Residents with Low Vision

Starting this summer, the will be expanding its services by offering a series of technology classes for Macomb County residents with low vision and blindness as well as seniors with vision challenges and caregivers.

Licensed clinical social worker, Sharon Lotoczky, will lead the bimonthly programs, which are designed to help those with low vision learn the techniques and technology needed to make life easier on a day-to-day basis. 

“In addition to being able to offer materials to those with low vision, we’re very happy to be able to offer classes to introduce technology and techniques to our patrons to help them be more productive at home or in the community,” said Emily Kubash, head of popular materials, in a prepared statement.

The programs will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Clinton-Macomb Public Library main branch, where the MLBPH is now housed. The first class will be held on June 12.

Each program will focus on a different topic such as assistive computer technology or low vision aids and Lotoczky will offer advice on technologies and techniques to fit each individual’s circumstances. Participants will also be encouraged to work with one another and share tips or suggestions based on their own experience.

The MLBPH serves all residents of Macomb County, who qualify, by providing free books on tape and players, large print books, equipment that enlarges text and more. All services are free.
