Macomb Churches Unite to Host 'Run the Plank' 5K This Summer

Three churches located along Romeo Plank Road will come together in June to host a community-wide walk/run for charity.

History will be made in Macomb Township this summer when three of the area's churches unite for the first time to host a community-wide run/walk along Romeo Plank Road.

On June 30, , and will join together to host the first-ever "Run the Plank" 5K run/walk in Macomb Township.

Although event details are still tentative, the race is set to start at 8:15 a.m., according to St. Peter Lutheran. Participants will leave from Immanuel Lutheran on 21 Mile Road, make their way past St. Isidore at 23 Mile and finish at St. Peter Lutheran on 24 Mile Road. Walkers' start time will be delayed to 8:30 a.m.

The event is open to both township residents and those from surrounding communities and proceeds are intended to benefit Soles4Souls, a non-profit group that assists those living in natural disaster areas such as Haiti and Japan who are in need of shoes and other footwear.

Each race participant will receive a participant bag and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each age group.

At the end of the race, there will be a family carnival at St. Peter, where participants can enjoy food, games and entertainment.

However, with the event only four months off, all three churches are still in need of volunteers to help organize the festivities. Those interested in volunteering for the event can contact any of the event chairs, or committees listed below.
