Verizon Offers $100,000 in Grants for Domestic Violence Prevention Programming

Michigan nonprofit organizations can apply to receive a portion of this $100,000 through Aug. 12.

Through August, nonprofit organizations in Michigan will have the opportunity to apply for $100,000 in grants being offered by the Verizon Foundation to support domestic violence prevention and awareness initiatives.

These awards will be made as part of the Verizon Foundation’s most recent Domestic Violence Solutions Request for Proposal (RFP).

“We are looking to support Michigan nonprofits engaged in helping domestic violence victims, survivors and their families,” said John Granby, Verizon Wireless regional president. “Domestic violence impacts more than just the victims and their families. It affects society as a whole at all educational and socioeconomic levels. Our goal is to help stop the cycle of domestic violence by lending financial support to outstanding organizations in Michigan who are working valiantly for this cause.”

Applications must be submitted through Verizon Foundation’s website using the invitation code: 579MEK6E9E

Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. Aug. 12 and recipients of grant monies will be notified by Sept. 16.

With $100,000 in grant money at its disposal, the Verizon Foundation estimates a minimum of six grants will be awarded as part of this RFP.

In the past four years, the Verizon Foundation has awarded more than $21 million to nonprofit organizations that assist domestic violence survivors. Verizon also actively supports survivors of domestic violence through its HopeLine program, which collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider.

Verizon Wireless then provides wireless phones and airtime to nonprofit organizations for use by domestic violence survivors and cash grants to local shelters and nonprofit organizations that focus on prevention, awareness and advocacy.
