I called to get information on this school's discipline policy and director really couldn't answer for me. She knew for certain that they didn't use time-out, which is of course what I would like to hear but as for alternatives, she wasn't sure. She believed they "remove the child to another area." That seems a bit like time-out, removing the child that you believe is causing the disruption. I asked if they found this to be effective, assuming that once you move a three year old to another area, other than where they want to be, that there has to be some sort of emotional response. She said she didn't know. I then asked, what if my child is uninterested in going to circle time. She said "good question. I wouldn't know how to answer that, why don't you attend our open house and ask the teachers in the class." Im all for constructive ways of handling discipline in a positive way, but removing time-out and implementing something very similar doesn't sound like much improvement. I am also not interesting in sending my child to a preschool where the director is unaware of what type of behavior management is is implemented in her school and whatever is in place doesn't seem very solution focused. It also doesn't seem to be anything that would encourage my child to develop communication skills, self-regulation, or self-discipline...skills needed in the real world.

I absolutly LOVE this school! I had a child there last year & have a child who will get to go for 2 years. I LOVE the preschool teachers & assistants. They are SO nurturing & loving to thier students. They really work with the children both individually & collectivly, as well as emotionally. They get them used to various school activities as well (library, gym, science, music). The stucture is incredible. I have picked up our children at different times just to see how the teachers handled thier classrooms & every time all the children were paying full attention.
As for the discipline policy. They use a "stop light" approach. Everyone is on green, then if you start to disrupt the class you will be warned after a couple times, you move a card to yellow, orange & if you are very disruptive repeatingly to red. If on red, the teacher will talk to the parent & child together. The kids really get a taste of being responsible, manners, rules and making good choices this way and it works! When talking to my daughter at home, she will tell me who moved thier card & why & why it was bad.
I also love all the activities they do with the kids. Fire department visits, zoo visits, people coming in to talk... its great! I also love that they work with the elementry schools to follow the same curiculumn for easy transition into kindergarten. I can not say enough good things about this place!!!!
There is a reason why there are waiting lists to get in here!!!!!
