With arts authorities now established in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, the question of a .2 mill property tax to support the DIA is guaranteed to appear on the Aug. 7 ballot.
Come August, Macomb Township voters will not only be nominating candidates for dozens of local offices, but also deciding the fate of funding for the Detroit Institute of Arts, as the proposed DIA millage will appear on the primary ballot. With the Oakland County Board of Commissioners finally joining its Macomb and Wayne counterparts Thursday in voting to create an arts authority, voters in all three counties can expect to see a .2 mill property tax on the Aug. 7 ballot. Macomb County is bringing its veteran outreach program to the Marvin Blank Senior Center in Macomb Township on May 22, from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Macomb Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped will begin offering programs this summer to help residents with low vision use various technologies to simplify daily life.
Starting this summer, the Macomb Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped will be expanding its services by offering a series of technology classes for Macomb County residents with low vision and blindness as well as seniors with vision challenges and caregivers. The Macomb Town Center Committee voted May 17 to recommend that the Macomb Township Board of Trustees bring back the subdivision's original architect to review current and future building plans for Town Center.
Firefighters battled a blaze Friday morning at a house in Macomb Township.
The Macomb Township Fire Department battled a blaze Friday morning at a home on the 45000 block of Bonaventure Street. By noon, the Macomb Township Fire Department had contained the blaze. Neighbor Tyron Brown told Patch nobody was injured in the fire. It's not yet known if anyone was home when the fire broke out. Fourth- and fifth-graders took part in a career day sponsored by the Mohawk Elementary School PTO.
Fourth- and fifth-grade students from Mohawk Elementary School participated in a career fair Friday. Various occupations were represented at the Mohawk Career Fair, including engineer, nurse, firefighter, doctor, orthodonist and pharmacist. John Hetzler, an Associate Regional Editor for Macomb Patch, talked about journalism. The event was organized by the Mohawk PTO.
