This November, Macomb Community College will ask voters to approve a $56 million bond to upgrade college facilities and technology. The MCC board of trustees authorized the placement of this Facilities and Technology Bond Proposal on the Nov. 6 general election ballot. “I and my colleagues on Macomb’s board of trustees take very seriously the responsibility we have to represent the needs of the community,” said James F. Kelly, board chairperson, in a prepared statement. “To maintain its role as an indispensable resource that supports the county’s economic vitality, the college is at a point that it is important to strategically and systematically plan for moderate capital expenditures to renovate and update facilities and technology.”     …

Kindergarten Registration: Macomb School Districts Enrolling for 2012-13

Chippewa Valley, L'Anse Creuse, Utica and New Haven are currently enrolling resident students and School of Choice students for kindergarten.

Time's running out to enroll your soon-to-be kindergarten student in a local program. Chippewa Valley, L'Anse Creuse, Utica and New Haven are currently enrolling resident students as well as School of Choice students for kindergarten during the 2012-13 school year. These districts will offer only all-day kindergarten. Staffing levels at the schools are based on registration, so it's important that districts know their enrollment levels as early as possible. Parents can register directly at the school where their child will attend. All elementary buildings and Little Turtle Early Childhood Center will have registration packets available for pick up and/or mailing during the remaining school year. Mother-Daughter Graduates Walk Stage Together at Wayne State

Macomb Township mother and daughter, Sherry Kahari and Darcia Miller, both graduated from Wayne State University May 7.

Sherry Kahari started Wayne State University as a mother-to-be and now, as fate would have it, both she and her daughter are graduating as members of the WSU Class of 2012. “Ironically, my daughter graduates with me at the same time in the same place where I started 20 years ago,” Kahari, 39, said. “This is where I was 20 years ago. I was fresh and didn’t know anything, so to come back to a place where I was lost and to now be walking across the stage with my daughter–I think that’s a lot to be commended for.” Fresh out of high school, a then 18-year-old Kahari had dreams of attending a university far from her Metro Detroit home. Then she found out she was pregnant. “I felt like my hopes and dreams were shattered at that point,” she said…

Chippewa Bids Farewell to Custodian Couple, Elementary Clerk, Teacher

Chippewa Valley Schools recently recognized the retirement of Karen Brosch, Janet Nank, Dennis Edwards, Sheila Hull, and Bob and Denise LaRosa.

With their years of service combined, Chippewa Valley’s most recent group of retirees leave the district with more than 150 years among them. As custodians, teachers, clerks and bus drivers, Karen Brosch, Janet Nank, Dennis Edwards, Sheila Hull, and Bob and Denise LaRosa have touched the lives of thousands of children over the course of their roughly 25 years each. These contributions were recognized Monday with the official reading of their retirement resolutions by the Chippewa Valley school board. The district bids farewell to not one, but two of its head elementary school custodians with the retirement of Bob and Denise LaRosa. As head custodians at Mohawk and Cherokee elementary schools, respectively, Bob and Denise leave the district…
