Shelby Sabers Fall to Lakeview Rugby

State Champs captured the action from the Lakeview boys rugby team's victory over the Shelby Sabers.

The Lakeview High School boys rugby team defeated the Shelby Sabers 25-17, according to a video posted on YouTube by State Champs. The Shelby Sabers are made up of students from Eisenhower and Dakota high schools. The rugby playoffs begin Saturday for Lakeview. Coaches, athletic directors and parents may submit results, highlights and photos by emailing jenny.whalen@patch.com. Parents and coaches can also post their own announcements directly.

CVHS Slated to Open DSC Prep Kickoff Classic Against Dearborn High

The Big Reds will take on the Pioneers in the first game of the Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic on Aug. 24 at Wayne State University.

Chippewa Valley High School will open its 2012 football season against Dearborn High School in the Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic at Wayne State University this August. Formerly known as the Big Day Prep Showdown, the Prep Kickoff Classic will be held at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State Aug. 24 and 25. The Big Reds and Pioneers will play the first game of the two-day event, taking the field at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 24. Additional matchups include Aug. 24: Aug. 25: Advance tickets are $8 on Aug. 24, and $10 on Aug. 25 and are currently available at the participating schools. A percentage of the proceeds from advance ticket sales will benefit the schools. Game-day tickets at the gate are $10 on Aug. 24 and $12 on Aug. 25…

Tigers' Coke and Balester to Make June Visit to Macomb's ABC Warehouse

The players will autograph photocards on June 2 in exchange for donations to the "Gloves for Kids" program.

Detroit Tigers' pitchers Phil Coke and Collin Balester will make a stop in Macomb Township o June 2 to meet fans and promote donations to the team's "Gloves for Kids" program. Coke and Balester will sign autographs from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at ABC Warehouse on Hall Road in exchange for donations of new or gently-used baseball and softball equipment. All equipment donations benefit youth leagues in Michigan. Photocards will be provided at the event for autographs, but no other items will be signed. Note to Fans: According to the Detroit Tigers website, presence at store during the designated time does not guarantee a signature and players are subject to change without notice.

The Topps Company, Inc. launched its new baseball app, Topps Pennant, on Monday and is hosting an online giveaway.

What is your favorite Tigers memory? Kaline’s two-run single in Game 5 of the ’68 World Series, Gibby’s homer in the eighth to clinch the Series in ’84 or maybe Verlander’s no hitter in 2007 or in 2011?   On Monday, The Topps Company, Inc. launched its new baseball app, Topps Pennant, with a special promotion asking the Detroit faithful to share their favorite Tigers memories using the Topps Pennant app and the #tigermemories hashtag on Twitter.   Participating fans will have the chance to win Tigers collectibles including old Topps cards of Tigers players of the 1980’s along with a signed contract from Tigers legend Alan Trammell. L'Anse Creuse North Golf Team Defeats Lakeview

The Crusaders defeat Lakeview 149-158 in high school golf match at St. Clair Shores Country Club.

The L'Anse Creuse North golf team defeated Lakeview 149-158 in a match at St. Clair Shores Country Club on Thursday afternoon, according to the Lakeview Athletics Twitter account. Fred Leduc, Nick Greenfelder and Zach Woelkers led L'Anse Creuse North as each shot a nine-hole round of 37. Trevor Frye added a 38 for the Crusaders. Tom Garbe shot a 34 to lead Lakeview. Danny Schwarzwalder had a 38, Billy Frattine had 42 and Jeff Jasezak had a 44 for the Huskies. Other members of the L'Anse Creuse North golf team include Pete Parski and David Clausen. Dakota Softball Defeats Lakeview

Cougars register 3-1 victory over Huskies.

The Dakota softball team defeated Lakeview 3-1 on Wednesday. Kate Taormina led Lakeview with two hits. Sophomore Jocelyn Spear added two hits and drove in the only run for the Huskies. Coaches, athletic directors and parents may submit results, highlights and photos to jenny.whalen@patch.com.

Dakota Swimmer Shines in Four Events at National YMCA Championship

Marah Pugh finishes as high as second place against top competitors in North Carolina.

Sophomore year is going very well for Dakota High swimmer Marah Pugh, who became a state champion in November and a second-place national finisher this week at a YMCA Championship Meet in Greensboro, NC. Pugh, competing for the Macomb Family YMCA Marlins, was the runner-up Thursday afternoon in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:26.76. Thirty-two other young women from around the country qualified for that event. The 16-year-old finished nearly as high in three other races, earning points daily during four days of indoor competition that ended Thursday:              Pugh, who also competed in the YMCA Nationals last April, is a varsity swimmer at Dakota.
