Patterson was unable to attend the race because he is recovering from injuries he received in an Aug. 10 car crash; he begins intense therapy on Monday to begin to walk again and said on Friday that he would be at home thinking nostalgic thoughts on Sunday …

A race and fund-raiser, this first "Run the Plank" event will also collect used shoes for Souls4Soles and use registration fees to benefit Macomb County's homeless education project.

If organizers of Macomb Township’s first “Run the Plank” 5K get their wish, more than 1,500 pairs of feet will trek northward on Romeo Plank Road June 30. Hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Isidore Catholic Church and St. Peter Lutheran Church, this community-wide run/walk is the first event of its kind in Macomb and the first on which the three parishes have collaborated. “It’s a great opportunity for a community building event,” said Mike Fontana, race chair and St. Isidore parishioner. “This is three local parishes wanting to do good for the community. VIDEO: Hundreds Run to Raise Awareness of Child Abuse

5K run honors slain child abuse victim Dominick Calhoun at Kensington Metropark in Milford.

Hundreds of runners braved chilly Saturday morning winds to honor slain child abuse victim Dominick Calhoun in a 5K race at Kensington Metropark in Milford. Four-year-old Dominick, of Argentine Township, was killed at the hands of his mother's ex-boyfriend. He was among more than 2,284 children in Genessee County who were abused and neglected in 2010. The run, organized by child abuse advocacy group ChildHelp, paid tribute to Dominick and other abuse victims while raising the profile of Dominick's Law, pending legislation that would enforce harsher penalties for those who abuse children. Rick Calhoun of Linden, Dominick's paternal grandfather, said he has received plenty of support from the community since his grandson's murder to honor …

Prep Continues Behind Romeo 2 Richmond Race Starting Line

Hundreds of runners will participate in this year's Romeo 2 Richmond half marathon and 5K races.

An estimated 500 runners will flood the Macomb Orchard Trail and fill the streets of downtown Richmond Sunday as they compete in the 5K and half marathon segments of this year's Romeo 2 Richmond Race. Though many will receive awards, the big winner of the R2R is the Macomb Food Program. The race's tagline "Running the Trail, Feeding the County" puts emphasis on the race's goal to provide $10,000 to the food program, which will buy 70,000 meals for Macomb County families in need. "In Macomb County, over the last two years, we have seen an increase of over 50 percent in requests from families needing help with emergency food from the food pantries," said Sue Figurski, Macomb Food Program director. "The Macomb Food Program is very grateful to…
