Call me maybe? An AT&T cellular outage left many customers in the lurch Monday morning.
Updated at 10:40 a.m. Wireless phone service was unavailable for AT&T customers Monday morning in southeast Michigan, but returned for some around 10:30 a.m. [Leave a comment if you've been affected!] "We are currently investigating the source of the outage and will have more information later today regarding the number of customers affected," AT&T senior public relations manager Jermaine Spight said. "The outage is affecting the ability to place and received calls on customers' mobile devices, however, they are able to text and access data services such as mobile Internet," he said.

Shavonne Jones of AT&T hopes the DriveMode app will save lives by keeping drivers' focus on the road.
It happens to many every day. The beckon of a digitized "ding" alerting cell users that a text message has come in while you're behind the wheel. One woman, an AT&T Detroit employee, has come up with a solution to combat the problematic temptation of texting while driving. "It's kind of like an out-of-office alert," Jones said of the free DriveMode app. "You can program your message: 'I’m driving right now. I can text you back later.'" Good news for local AT&T customers, the company announced Monday that it has completed "a key initiative" that promises to "enhance the wireless capacity and performance of its mobile Internet network" in Macomb Township and surrounding communities, according to PRNewswire. Customers in Macomb, Clinton Township and New Baltimore can expect improved Internet coverage and voice performance on their mobile devices as a result of this initiative. Trustees voted to deny AT&T's latest proposal to change its lease for the cell tower at Fire Station No. 1, believing these changes to be beneficial to AT&T alone.
For the second time in three months, Macomb Township trustees are giving a "no-go" to AT&T on its proposed changes to a cell tower lease. "This is essentially the same offer that AT&T proposed to the board months ago, however, this offer is in respect to fire station No. 1, whereas the previous offer was in respect to station No. 2," said Chris Anderson, an attorney with Seibert & Dloski PLLC. "AT&T is asking the board to renegotiate the economics of the lease so that the money is quite frankly more favorable to AT&T." Township trustees voted to deny AT&T's proposed changes to its lease for the cell tower at Fire Station No. 2 believing these changes to be beneficial to AT&T alone.
Macomb Township trustees took a united front Wednesday in expressing their strong opposition to AT&T’s most recent proposal to renegotiate its current lease for the cell tower located at Fire Station No. 2. “AT&T terms it proposal as a lease optimization, but when we reviewed the proposal it’s basically AT&T asking to renegotiate the lease to give them more favorable terms,” said the township's attorney Lawrence Dloski. The proposal was unanimously denied, with Trustee Dino Bucci leading the motion. “I think we should do it and just hand them the keys to the township, too,” said Trustee Dino Bucci. “I move to deny, Mr. Chairman.” The decision to deny the proposal was no doubt influenced by Dloski’s blunt summary of the proposed changes. “…
