Regional Leaders Write Pentagon to Support Selfridge

Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township is in danger of losing hundreds of jobs under an Air Force proposal.

Metro Detroit leaders penned the Pentagon this month to show support of Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township. The letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta comes at a time when the base is in danger of losing of hundreds of jobs under an Air Force proposal. It is signed by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing. Nearly 400 part-time and 200 full-time positions could be lost if the Air Force proposal to eliminate the A-10 squadron at the Macomb County base is approved. VIDEO: Patriotic Celebration Honors Veterans at Macomb Community College

A Veterans Day celebration was held Nov. 10 at the center campus of Macomb Community College.

In honor of Veterans Day, Macomb Community College held a special ceremony Nov. 10 to recognize local members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The program included a 21-gun salute by the rifle squad of the Macomb County Detachment 154 Marine Guard, comments from Col. Ronald Shun of the U.S. Army, a moment of silence for the nation's fallen heroes and a special performance by Yates, Macomb's All-American Frisbee dog.
