Tigers’ Justin Verlander and Supermodel Kate Upton Spotted at Shelby Bar

Rumors of Tigers' Justin Verlander and Supermodel Kate Upton's budding romance continues to spread after the two were spotted together at Coyote Joe's on Thursday, according to CBS Detroit.

Employees at Coyote Joe's confirmed to CBS Detroit that Tigers' pitcher Justin Verlander was spotted with supermodel Kate Upton Thursday at the Shelby Township bar on 22 Mile and Ryan roads. The article states that the two looked "very chummy" and were "hanging all over each other" at Coyote Joe's after attending an Aerosmith concert earlier that evening, CBS Detroit reported. The spotting has fueled rumors—and lots of talk on sports radio—that the two may be dating after Upton, a Michigan native, was also seen dancing at a Tigers game in Verlander's suite at Comerica Park Friday. It's even attracted attention at the All-Star Game in Kansas City, where Verlander is expected to start for the American League on Tuesday night. It's unclear if…

Macomb Corners Park Opens Today for Summer Season

Parts of the park have been open, weather permitting, since March, but the athletic fields, restrooms, concessions and inline skating rink open Sunday, April 15.

It's official. Macomb Corners Park is open for the summer. While Macomb Township's Parks & Recreation Department opened the park on a weather-permitting basis in March, only the playscape and one-mile walking path were available for use. With the official opening of the park today, residents can now use these features plus the park's six lighted ball diamonds, inline skating rink, concession area, walking path, sand volleyball courts, football fields, soccer fields and restrooms. Providing the township's only public ball diamonds, other than those on school property, Macomb Corners is home to numerous youth and adult leagues, including the Macomb Township Little League and Clinton-Macomb Girls Fastpitch League. The township has contracted …

Outdoor Little League Field Planned in Chesterfield

The regulation field is projected for completion by June off Morelli Drive near Chesterfield Road.

Blueprints are expected to materialize to an outdoor little league field on the grounds of an indoor baseball business this summer. Spring Training, which has a 20,000-square-foot softball and baseball facility on Morelli Drive near Chesterfield Road, has site plans before the township Planning Commission to build a regulation little league field. The 225-foot field, slated for vacant land adjacent to the business' parking lot, would accommodate women, girls and boys under 12, said co-owner and lead instructor Jeff Damore of Macomb Township. "They're so eager for me to put this up," Damore said of Chesterfield officials. "We're not just building a field, we're building a state-of-the-art facility." The Planning Commission is expected to …

Will the Detroit Tigers Win the World Series?

After defeating the New York Yankees on Thursday, the Tigers advance to the American League Championship Series and are one step closer to the World Series.

The Detroit Tigers took a bite out of the Big Apple, and now they are moving on—deep into the heart of Texas, in fact—in the Major League Baseball playoffs. After disposing of the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series on Thursday, the Tigers will take on the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship Series. If the Tigers can defeat the Rangers, they will advance to the World Series. Everyone seems to have Tigers fever. Fireworks could be heard in Grosse Pointe Woods after the Tigers' Jose Valverde struck out Yankees star Alex Rodriguez to end the game. On Grosse Pointe Patch’s Facebook page, Meghan Allen exclaimed, “Bless You Boys!” "OH YAY...ROCK ON DETROIT!" wrote Deborah McConnell on Hartland Patch's Facebook, …

Tigers' Fans Need-to-Know Guide for Game 4 Against Yankees

MDOT is helping Tigers fans headed downtown for Games 3 and 4 plan ahead by posting major lane closures and restrictions on its website.

All roads lead to Comerica Park tonight as the Tigers host the New York Yankees once again in Game 4 of the American League Division Series. A 5-3 victory in Game 2 tied the teams at 1-1, and a narrow 5-4 win Monday night gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead over the Yankees. It could all end tonight with a win by Detroit, but another tie could result in a fifth game in New York. But that's getting a little ahead of ourselves. To help fans headed downtown for Game 4, the Michigan Department of Transportation is posting major lane closures and restrictions on its website. Titled "Getting to Comerica Park," the information appears in the rotating spotlight section on the MDOT home page at www.michigan.gov/mdot. Motorists also are advised to "Know …

Tigers and Baseball Belong to All of Us

As postseason gets under way for Detroit team, memories take center stage.

It’s just plain different. Period. Baseball is sacred to Americans. It’s our game, it’s marked the passage of time for more than a century, and it, unlike any other game, unifies us all. Our grandfathers talked of the game’s greats of their era, as did our fathers to us, as we do to our kids, and as they will to theirs—each generation comparing statistics, impact and status of their favorite players and teams. DiMaggio and Williams, Mantle and Mays, Ryan and Clemens, Pujols and Jeter — each name highlighting endless conversations between generations of baseball fans. Who is better? Where do they fit in list of all-time greats? What if Williams played today, or Pujols played then?  Baseball is a common thread woven through the tapestry of …
