Wandering Parent Forces Cheyenne Elementary Into Lockdown

The elementary school was in lockdown for a short time Wednesday afternoon after school administrators were made aware that an unidentified man had entered the school.

Cheyenne Elementary was put into lockdown around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after administrators learned a suspicious person had entered the school. Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the individual was later identified as a parent who had entered the school through a side door, rather than the main entrance designated for visitors. “He knocked on the door but it was locked,” Wickersham said. “Apparently kids came to the door, he threatened them to let him in, which they did. The individual then came into the school, walked over to where his son’s classroom was and exited the school a short time later.” Wickersham said the parent was identified through security footage and taken into custody to be interviewed. Unfortunately, the kid who let the parent in was probably afraid to not let them in. We teach our kids to respect adults and not defy (within reason). We never want to put our kids in danger, but be informed. The child was probably torn for what was the right thing to do.
