Former Dakota Football Champ Makes Final Visit to Big House Saturday

Senior tight end Mike Kwiatkowski joined the University of Michigan squad as a walk-on in 2010.

A former Dakota High School football player will take the field at Michigan Stadium for the final time Saturday, completing a journey the senior tight end admits he never truly expected. "When I first got here I never expected this day to come," said Mike Kwiatkowski, in an interivew recorded by MaizeandBlueNews.com. "The first game I dressed for was Michigan State and I was just happy to be out here and I had no foresight of thinking that three years in the future I would be walking out there as a senior for the last time." Playing football and basketball at Dakota, Kwiatkowski finally made the Cougars' varsity squad his junior year, but opted to focus his efforts on the basketball court instead.  Having to sit back and watch his former …

Dakota to Face Rival Chippewa Valley in First Round of State Playoffs; LCN Takes on Romeo

Both Dakota and L'Anse Creuse North's varsity teams secured berths in the first round of the state high school football playoffs. The games take place Friday at 7 p.m.

CVHS vs. Dakota Rivals Chippewa Valley High School and Dakota High School will face off again in the first round of the state high school football playoffs, the MHSAA announced Oct. 21. Dakota defeated Chippewa Valley 17-13 in the regular season. The Cougars are 8-1 overall, and the Big Reds are (5-4). Dakota will host CVHS Friday at 7 p.m. at their stadium in Macomb Township. LCN vs. Romeo L'Anse Creuse North will face Romeo in the first round of the state high school football playoffs, the MHSAA announced Oct. 21. The Bulldogs dealt a 21-24 loss to the Crusaders during the regular season, but L'Anse Creuse North boasts the better record at 7-2 overall to Romeo's 5-4. Cougars Celebrate Homecoming 2012 With Parade, Football and Dance

Dakota High School kicked off its "Once Upon a Homecoming" festivities Friday.

It's homecoming weekend for Dakota High School, with a parade, football game and dance all on the schedule. The Cougars kicked off the festivities Friday, Sept. 28, with a parade from 22 Mile to Heydenreich, ending at the Dakota football field. With several generations of Cougars cheering them on in the stands, Dakota delivered a true homecoming victory with its 56-21 defeat of Cousino.  Upload your photos from the weekend festivities to this photo album! Dakota Football Coach to Take Top Spot in All-Star Game

The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association has named Dakota's Mike Giannone to coach the east team in this year's all-star game.

Before the fall football season starts in Macomb, Dakota High School's Mike Giannone will travel to Central Michigan University to coach the east team in the state's 32nd East-West All-Star Game. The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association selected Giannone to lead the east team, and named Spring Lake High School coach Jerry Rabideau to head the west in this year's all-star matchup. “The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association is very pleased to announce that Mike Giannone and Jerry Rabideau will serve as the head coaches for the 32nd East-West All Star Game,” said Gus Kapolka, 2011 MHSFCA East-West All Star Game chair, in a prepared statement. “Mike and Jerry are extremely respected high school football coaches and …

PHOTOS: Dakota Shuts Out Stevenson 38-0

Strong defense on the part of the Cougars prevents the Titans from finding the end zone even once.

The Cougars continued their winning streak Friday night, dealing a 38-0 defeat to the Stevenson Titans. Dakota is now 4-1 for the season. A touchdown in the first quarter put the Cougars up 7-0 and several more plays in the second had the team heading into halftime with a 24-0 lead. Dakota dealt the final blow in the third quarter, taking the score to 38-0 and preventing the Titans from finding the end zone even once.  Dakota now hosts Grosse Pointe North at Cougar Stadium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 30.
