Today's News Fast: Oct. 4

Schools prepare for National Walk Our Children to School Day, the library hosts Haley, the helper dog, and today's weather offers a beautiful high of 71 degrees.

Mother Nature has a glorious day planned for us, according to the National Weather Service. It will be mostly sunny, with a high near 71 degrees, and will only drop to 47 degrees at night. Wednesday is National Walk Our Children to School Day and local elementary schools are asking parents to do their part by leaving the car at home and walking their children to campus to promote health, fitness and safe routes to school. October is National Everything month–or so it seems. In addition to it being National Pizza Month, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Eat Country Ham Month, the Chippewa Valley school board is also recognizing it as Red Ribbon Month. Is it really October already? Time goes fast, but the news goes faster. Stay updated with daily installments of today's news fast.

Today is why we love Michigan. Even though the first day of fall was last week, we'll still see a high near 64 degrees with partly sunny skies. That nip will return to the air in the evening though, with a low around 45 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The Chippewa Valley school board meets tonight at 6:30 at the administration building on Cass Avenue. Here's a look at what's on the agenda. Today's News Fast: Sept. 30

It's homecoming weekend, so we're looking to our local high schools for much of today's news.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 70 percent chance of precipitation today, so showers are likely before 2 p.m. It will be cloudy throughout the day, and the temperature will fall to around 48 degrees by 5 p.m. The evening low will be around 42 degrees. Happy homecoming! All three Macomb Township high schools have kick off homecoming weekend tonight with parade, court receptions and the traditional football game. Today's News Fast: Sept. 29

A new fitness option moves into Macomb, local Cub Scout packs increase recruiting efforts and Macomb receives its own piece of the DIA–it's all in today's news.

Only a slight chance of showers this morning, with partly sunny skies and a high near 66 degrees. Showers are more likely in the late evening hours and skies will be cloudy, meaning a nighttime low around 49 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.  A new exercise option is coming to Macomb Township. Anytime Fitness plans to open in Waldenburg Plaza, 22 Mile and Romeo Plank, in mid to late November. Through the end of November, Macomb residents can view six masterpieces from the Detroit Institute of Arts right in their own backyard. Local cheer and dance teams prepare for Breast Cancer Awareness month, township trustees hold their regular meeting, and local deals promise to save money on groceries–it's all in today's news fast.

Lutheran North experiences a real "High School Musical," voters are asked to approve new millage for education and the Your Patch of Michigan Photo Contest comes to an end in today's news.

With a little luck, we'll miss the rain today, for there's only a 40 percent chance of showers after 8 a.m. The National Weather Service is predicting areas of fog before 8 a.m., but otherwise, partly sunny skies, with a high near 70 degrees. It will be mostly cloudy in the evening, with a low around 54 degrees.  When the directors at Lutheran North selected Disney's High School Musical as the school's fall production, they never thought the story behind the show would become a reality for the cast.  Nov. 8 may be more than a month away, but voters should start thinking now whether they are open to the 1.2 mill property tax proposal on the ballot. We're starting off this week's Patch news with a feature on the youth ministry at St. Peter Lutheran, a roundup of fall-themed events and, as always, a handy weather report.

The National Weather Service is predicting showers and possibly a thunderstorm during the day, with the chance of showers continuing into the evening. Temperature wise, we'll see a high near 69 degrees and low around 52 degrees. While many churches are seeing fewer young people take active roles, St. Peter Lutheran's youth ministry is thriving. Members of 'His Rock' youth group are involved in numerous ministries and local charities in Macomb Township and Metro Detroit. It's Friday, which means football! If you're not a pigskin fan, no worries, we have lots of other stories for you to enjoy as you head into the weekend.

If you're a betting person, and are willing to believe the National Weather Service's forecast for today, you can expect rain, cloudy skies and a high near 62 degrees. Tonight's low will be around 49 degrees. L'Anse Creuse North goes up against district rival L'Anse Creuse High School at 7 p.m. at North stadium. There's a 20 percent chance of showers today, although it should be partly sunny through most of the day. We'll see a high near 67 degrees and a low around 48 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The chance of showers continues into the evening, so it's not a bad idea to have an umbrella handy. Chippewa Valley High School journalism teacher, John Spreitzer, passed away suddenly Tuesday. Big Reds from past and present pay tribute to this much beloved teacher on Patch. The 69-year-old Macomb Township woman who was brutally stabbed during a home invasion in February died Tuesday.
