Want to help fight hunger in Macomb Township? Join Patch and help raise $10,000 for Gleaners Community Food Bank right now.

Nestled between the classrooms and lockers of Dakota's Freshman Center sits a closet. The space is no bigger than the average janitor's closet, but the items stored within speak to this location's purpose and significance.  Pasta, canned vegetables, cleaning products and diapers are only a few of products stored in the Cougar Closet, a food pantry housed in the Freshman Center and open to all Macomb County residents. "From Cougar Day on, when they come in for registration, we talk to students and parents about the closet," said Kim Voss, Freshman Center principal and lead organizer of the closet, in a previous interview with Patch. "I think there is a sense of pride that it exists and a sense of awareness through our building and the …

This Thanksgiving, Help Patch Fight Hunger in Michigan

We want to give more to Gleaners Community Food Bank this holiday season. Shop our virtual food drive by Nov. 25 to join the fight.

The season of giving isn't over yet—so why should our Patch Fights Hunger virtual food drive end so soon? As such, we've extended our drive supporting Gleaners Community Food Bank until Nov. 25. On Thanksgiving, a day when every American family gives thanks for the things in their life, most of us will enjoy a feast with our families. But there are still many people who don't have enough to eat—including one out of every four children. Gleaners distributes 100,000 meals each day to hungry people in southeast Michigan, and we want to help them with their goal by raising $10,000 through the Patch Fights Hunger online food drive. Ninety-four cents of every dollar you donate goes directly toward feeding hungry people in your own communities. …

Children Are Hungry in Macomb Township, And You Can Help

More than 300,000 children in southeast Michigan don't get enough to eat, negatively impacting health, learning and more.
