Macomb County Drivers Expect Groesbeck Delays

Utility work will take place over this weekend on the main road, according to Michigan Department of Transportation.

Macomb County motorists can expect delays this weekend on Groesbeck, as construction will prompt lane closures. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, northbound and southbound Groesbeck Highway will have single- and double-lane closures between 13 Mile and Utica roads beginning 5 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday for utility work. $13.5 Million Construction on Groesbeck Underway

During the project, which covers 3.4 miles of pavement between 14 Mile and Hayes roads, two lanes will be open in each direction during peak travel times.

Motorists from Macomb Township heading south to central Macomb County beware, six months of road work on Groesbeck between 14 Mile and Hayes roads is scheduled to start this week. Crews will begin a $13.5 million resurfacing project on Monday, March 18, and the Michigan Department of Transportation predicts the orange barrels will stay out through October. Construction is due to take place in two stages, starting with southbound Groesbeck and finishing with the northbound side. Work will include drainage and utility upgrades, as preliminary signal work has already been completed.  Because this is a highly-traveled stretch of highway, two lanes will be open in each direction of Groesbeck during peak travel times. The county can spend all that money on a road that is still in very good shape but they want to charge the residents on Cimarron to pay for what the school busses have destroyed. What a waste of tax payers money.   more ›

MDOT Commits Millions to I-94, Groesbeck and Van Dyke Expressway Construction

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to conduct around $187 million worth of work in in 2013 on 80 miles of pavement and 15 bridges in the Metro Detroit area.

Enjoy the snow while it lasts, motorists. Once winter shifts into construction season, some of the highest traveled thoroughfares heading in the area will undergo resurfacing work. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced this week that it plans to award approximately $187 million in contracts during 2013 to improve 80 miles of pavement and repair 15 bridges in the MDOT Metro Region. Roughly $30.3 million of this total has been allocated to resurfacing 5 miles of I-94 between I-696 and Masonic, and more than 3 miles of Groesbeck between Hayes and 14 Mile. Macomb Twp. Woman Faces Felony Charge in Fatal Groesbeck Crash

Katharine Reid Mitchell, of Macomb Township, was arraigned in 41B District Court today following Saturday's head-on crash on Groesbeck that killed a 52-year-old Clinton Township woman.

A 52-year-old Macomb Township woman was arraigned today on a felony drunken driving charge stemming from Saturday's head-on accident on Groesbeck that killed a 52-year-old Clinton Township woman. Katharine Reid Mitchell, of Macomb Township, was driving northbound on Groesbeck when she crossed the centerline and hit the car of Tina Marie Bates, according to witness reports taken by the Clinton Township police. Bates died in the crash, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at Groesbeck south of 15 Mile Road. Mitchell was arraigned Monday in 41B District Court in Clinton Township on a felony charge of operating a vehicle while using a controlled substance causing death and a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. …

Detroit Free Press: Macomb Driver Arrested Following Fatal Groesbeck Crash

A 52-year-old Macomb Township woman is being held in the Macomb County Jail following Saturday's head-on accident on Groesbeck in which a Clinton Township woman died.

A 52-year-old Macomb Township woman is in police custody following a head-on crash Saturday that resulted in the death of a Clinton Township resident, according to The Detroit Free Press. The Free Press reports that the Macomb Township woman was driving north on Groesbeck when she crossed the centerline and hit a vehicle driven by the victim, a 52-year-old Clinton Township woman, head on. Police said the victim was declared dead at the scene. They have not released the identity of the driver or the victim. The accident occurred at approximately 8:09 p.m., according to Free Press reports. The accident is under investigation and police believe alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor.
