Dakota's girls basketball team earned Macomb County team of the year honors at the newspaper's annual basketball awards dinner.
Team comes first at Dakota, and this year the Cougars were Macomb County’ top team. The Dakota girls basketball team earned team of the year honors at The Macomb Daily’s annual basketball awards dinner. “We always preached to our players how important it is to be a "team" throughout their time in our program,” Dakota coach Phil McCune said in an email. “This is a great reward!” Dakota won 20 games this season and claimed a Class A district championship, according to The Macomb Daily.

Senior helped Cougars reach state finals this year.
Marissa Solnik had a season to remember for the Dakota bowling team. Solnik helped the Cougars win a Division 1 regional team championship in late February. In addition, the senior also finished second at the individual regional tournament. Her score of 1,235 was just three pins behind regional champion Alyssa Meade of L’Anse Creuse North. By virtue of her strong showing in the regionals Solnik advance to the individual state finals, where she placed 20th with a six-game total of 1156 at the individual bowling state finals on March 2 in Muskegon. Nicole Mikaelian shined in individual competitions and helped the Cougars advance to the semifinals of the state tournament.
Nicole Mikaelian bowled them over this winter. A junior at Dakota High School, Mikaelian reached the semifinals of the Division 1 state bowling individual finals on March 2 in Muskegon. In addition Mikaelian helped the Cougars advance to the semifinals at the the state team finals on March 1. She also helped Dakota win the regional team title on Feb. 22 at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights. At the individual regional tournament, Mikaelian placed third with a score of 1217. Olivia Savage scores 30 points to lead Cougars past Port Huron Northern 54-49 in Class A district championship game.
Congratulations to the Dakota High School girls basketball team. The Cougars captured a Class A district championship on Friday night by defeating Port Huron 54-49, according to the MHSAA. Olivia Savage scored 30 points to lead Dakota, according to the Macomb Daily. With the victory, Dakota improves its record to 19-3 overall and advances to a Class A regional semifinal game against Sterling Heights on Tuesday, March 5. The game will take place at Lake Shore High School at 7 p.m.

After overtime victory over Rochester Adams, Dakota gears up for MAC Red Division rival Eagles in state playoffs.
Thanks to Matt Riehl’s heroics, Dakota’s hockey team stayed alive in the state tournament. Now the Cougars must prepare for a showdown against Eisenhower on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Clemens Ice Arena. Riehl scored in overtime to lift Dakota to a 4-3 victory over Rochester Adams on Monday, according to MIPrepZone. Dakota, No. 9 in the Division 1 state coaches poll, shared the MAC Red Division championship with Eisenhower this season. Now the Cougars and the Eagles will vie in the Division 1 regional semifinals. At stake will be a berth in the regional championship game Saturday, March 2.

The two girls basketball teams will play in the Class A district semifinals on Wednesday.
Two high school girls basketball teams from Macomb Township will square off in the Class A district tournament on Wednesday night. L’Anse Creuse North, the co-champion of the MAC Blue Division, will take on host Dakota High School in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Both teams have 17-3 overall records. Dakota placed second in the MAC Red Division. The winner of the game will advance to the district championship game on Friday at 6 p.m. at Dakota High School.

Alyssa Meade of L'Anse Creuse North won the girls individual regional championship.
The Dakota High School girls bowling team won a Division 1 regional championship this weekend at Star Lanes, according to MHSAA. Meanwhile, both the boys and girls bowling teams from L’Anse Creuse North advanced to the state championship. The LCN boys finished second at the regional at Star Lanes, and the girls were third. In the girls team tournament, Dakota finished first with 3,865 points. Sterling Heights Stevenson was second with 3,683, and L’Anse Creuse North was third with 3,559. All three will advance to next weekend’s state finals at Northway Lanes in Muskegon. In the boys team tournament, L’Anse Creuse North placed second with 4,144 points. The Dakota High School hockey team dropped its regular-season finale 3-1 to Detroit Country Day on Saturday night, according to MLive.com. Chad Roskelly scored the only goal for the Cougars, who have a 19-5-1 overall record. Dakota opens play in the Division 1 state tournament on Monday when the Cougars take on Rochester Adams at 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Clemens Ice Arena.

Devon Querro has committed to play basketball at Marygrove College next year.
Once a Mustang, always a Mustang. Lutheran High School North senior Devon Querro can expect at least one familiar face when she heads to college next year, namely her team mascot. Now in her final season as a Lutheran North Mustang, Querro has committed to continue her basketball career at Marygrove College, home of – you guessed it – the Mustangs. A point guard and shooting guard for the Lutheran North team, Querro has helped her team to a 12-6 record with two games remaining in the regular season. Querro is also a multi-year member of the Michigan Shock AAU Girls Basketball Team. Has your student athlete committed to play at the college level?
