Senior Centers 'Hold 'Em' Until Gambling Bill Regulating Poker Approved

The lyrics of Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler"—“You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em’”—have been looping though the minds of senior center members across the state while they wait on word if their weekly Texas Holdem tournaments can resume. After the State Lottery Commission raided a Lapeer senior center last year and told centers across Michigan that they had to pay for a state gambling license to continue playing “Vegas-style” card games for $5 a player, most centers have suspended their tournaments. “We’re waiting patiently and hoping to resume playing in 4-5 weeks,” said Debbie Webber Director of the Romeo Washington Groups Senior Centers. Decline in Macomb Housing Market Continues into 2011

Macomb Township home values are not expected to increase again until late 2011, real estate experts say.

Decreased home values were a leading concern for sellers in 2010, and local real estate agents say this theme is likely to continue in Macomb Township until the end of 2011. "We had historically low mortgage rates, federal mandates and real estate tax credits, all intended to jump start a housing market hampered by foreclosures and short sales," said Keith Reaume, sales counselor with Century 21 AAA North in Macomb Township. "Buyers and sellers had to adapt to changes beyond their control in a declining market." According to MiRealSource, the average residential sale price in Macomb Township was $149,955 in October 2010, compared to $153,355 in October 2009, a 2 percent decline.
