10 Things To Do With Kids to Burn Off the Post-Holiday Sugar Rush

School is out and the kids are full of holiday energy. Here are 10 things you can do as a family in and around Macomb Township.

"And mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again ... " Whether its Bing Crosby or Johnny Mathis singing those words, most of us can agree there's more than a little truth in them. If the kids are still running on a sugar high from this weekend's holiday revelry, here are a 10 ways to help them burn off the excess energy while still enjoying time as a family: 1. Movies Catch a kid-friendly film like Monsters, Inc. 3D or The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey at nearby MJR Partridge Creek or Chesterfield Crossing Cinemas. Price: Matinee shows, from noon to 6 p.m., are $5. Super Saver shows before noon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are $4.50. 2. Staycation Tuesday: Spring Break Skate at Suburban Ice or Mount Clemens

Staying in Macomb for spring break? Check Patch every day this week for a new family-friendly staycation idea.

There's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and the skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 55 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. With this weather in mind, you may want to plan indoor activities for this day of spring break. Mount Clemens Ice Arena will host spring break skate every day this week, as well as April 9, from noon-1:50 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $4.50 for seniors/students, with $3 skate rental. Suburban Ice Macomb will hold its regular open skate every day from noon-1:50 p.m. Admission is $3 for all ages, with $2 skate rental. The arena will run extra Sticks & Pucks and Drop-In hockey sessions this week. Call 586-992-8600 for specific times.
