Police Identify Driver in Fatal I-94 Crash

The three-vehicle crash shut down the freeway at Metro Parkway Tuesday afternoon.

Police identified the motorist in Tuesday's fatal crash on Interstate 94 as a 49-year-old Mount Clemens man. William Weaver was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens after the accident, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said the crash that took place around 2:16 p.m. when Weaver merged from Metro Parkway onto the freeway, crossing over all three lanes. His 1987 Chrysler New Yorker struck another vehicle before hitting the center median barrier before another vehicle crashed into it. He was not wearing a seat belt, the Sheriff's Office said. MDOT Commits Millions to I-94, Groesbeck and Van Dyke Expressway Construction

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to conduct around $187 million worth of work in in 2013 on 80 miles of pavement and 15 bridges in the Metro Detroit area.

Enjoy the snow while it lasts, motorists. Once winter shifts into construction season, some of the highest traveled thoroughfares heading in the area will undergo resurfacing work. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced this week that it plans to award approximately $187 million in contracts during 2013 to improve 80 miles of pavement and repair 15 bridges in the MDOT Metro Region. Roughly $30.3 million of this total has been allocated to resurfacing 5 miles of I-94 between I-696 and Masonic, and more than 3 miles of Groesbeck between Hayes and 14 Mile. The majority of the work is planned for Wayne County and Detroit specifically, but projects have been announced for Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties. These four counties …

Update: I-94 is Open in Macomb County

An overturned truck closed westbound on I-94 between Little Mack and Metro Parkway for nearly four hours Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews have reopened westbound Interstate 94 between Metro Parkway and Little Mack on Wednesday after a gravel hauler overturned. The expressway was closed for nearly four hours Wednesday afternoon. The St. Clair Shores Fire Department reports there were no injuries in the accident. Construction on Interstate 94 Starts Next Week

The Michigan Department of Transportation announces construction plans for the freeway in Macomb County.

Starting next week, Macomb County drivers may experience delays on Interstate 94. Barrier wall work will prompt intermittent single lane closures on eastbound I-94 from Little Mack to M-59 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily starting Jan. 21 to Jan. 31, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Alleged Drunken Driver Crashes into Vehicle, Sideswipes Police Car

The New Haven driver was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon.

Chesterfield Township police are investigating a three-car accident involving a sheriff's patrol car late Wednesday at the St. Clair County-Macomb County border, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office. At approximately, 11:15 p.m., a St. Clair County Sheriff's patrol vehicle was traveling westbound on Marine City Highway en route to Interstate 94.  "The car was heading through the intersection of County Line Road when a vehicle heading eastbound went into the turn lane, struck a vehicle from behind, then veered into the path of the patrol unit," the Sheriff's Office stated in a news release. Macomb County Pedestrian Struck by I-94 Overpass

A Macomb Township man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

A 20-year-old Macomb Township pedestrian suffered serious injuries after he was struck Wednesday by a vehicle near the Interstate 94 overpass in Harrison Township, police said. At approximately 1:38 a.m., a 21-year-old Mount Clemens woman reported to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office that she struck someone lying on Metro Parkway near the freeway overpass, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. The driver of the 2003 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling westbound on Metro Parkway when she noticed something in the roadway. When she realized it was a person, she was unable to brake in time and hit the man, reporting the incident right after. Woman Believed to Have Jumped from I-94 Overpass

Police said Wednesday they are investigating the death that took place on the highly traveled freeway in Chesterfield Township.

A 54-year-old New Haven woman apparently jumped to her death late Tuesday night from an Interstate 94 overpass, Chesterfield Township police said Wednesday. Slightly before midnight, a 57-year-old Roseville man driving a mini van called 911 to report he believed he struck a pedestrian on I-94 by the New Haven Road overpass. The motorist pulled over to give police information and said it's likely one or two other vehicles struck the woman in the westbound lanes but kept driving, township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said. The woman, whose Ford pickup was parked on the shoulder by the New Haven Road overpass, did not leave a note. Her family was notified of her death, but her identity was not immediately released.
