MDOT Imposes Seasonal Weight Restrictions on State Highways in Michigan

Weight restrictions will be enforced on all state trunkline highways beginning March 26.

In an effort to curtail damage to Michigan's roads this spring, the Michigan Department of Transportation has imposed seasonal weight restrictions on all state trunkline highways. The weight restrictions will apply to state routes with an "M," "I," or "US" designation. In the restricted areas, the following will apply: All extended permits will be valid for oversize-only loads in the weight-restricted area on the restricted routes. Single-trip permits will not be issued for any overweight loads or loads exceeding 14 feet in width, 11 axles and 150 feet in overall length, on the restricted routes. MDOT Commits Millions to I-94, Groesbeck and Van Dyke Expressway Construction

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to conduct around $187 million worth of work in in 2013 on 80 miles of pavement and 15 bridges in the Metro Detroit area.

Enjoy the snow while it lasts, motorists. Once winter shifts into construction season, some of the highest traveled thoroughfares heading in the area will undergo resurfacing work. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced this week that it plans to award approximately $187 million in contracts during 2013 to improve 80 miles of pavement and repair 15 bridges in the MDOT Metro Region. Roughly $30.3 million of this total has been allocated to resurfacing 5 miles of I-94 between I-696 and Masonic, and more than 3 miles of Groesbeck between Hayes and 14 Mile. Weekend Construction Reduces I-94 to One Lane Between 23 Mile and County Line

Construction continues all along I-94 in Macomb County, with multiple lane and ramp closures scheduled throughout the weekend.

Summer may be coming to an end but construction is scheduled to continue in Macomb for a few months yet. Ongoing road work will reduce eastbound and westbound I-94 to a single lane between 23 Mile and County Line roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing road work. A single lane will also be closed on the ramp from eastbound I-94 to 23 Mile Road until early September for crews to add an additional turn lane on the ramp. The ramp from 26 Mile Road to westbound I-94 will be closed for reconstruction until Aug 31. A detour will be posted. In Macomb Township, 24 Mile Road remains closed between Card Road and North Avenue for paving and water main work. Eastbound and westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane nightly from 7 …

Two Lanes Remain Closed on EB Hall Road Between M-53 and Hayes

Concrete patching work on eastbound Hall Road between M-53 and Hayes will cause traffic backups during peak drive times.

Expect traffic to continue to bottleneck this week at the M-53 exit to eastbound Hall Road as concrete patching keeps two lanes closed between M-53 and Hayes Road. The lane closures are scheduled to continue through 5 p.m. Tuesday. Starting today, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane nightly between 23 Mile and County Line roads. The closures will start at 7 p.m. and end by 6 a.m. the following mornings, Monday night through Friday morning. Ongoing: 24 Mile Road remains closed between Card Road and North Avenue for paving and water main work.

Weekend Construction Continues on I-94 Between 23 Mile and County Line

If I-94 or Gratiot are in your weekend driving plans, keep in mind these areas will be under construction.

Drivers will find most of I-94 between 23 Mile and County Line roads under construction this weekend as crews continue ongoing resurfacing work. The westbound I-94 exit ramp to 26 Mile Road is currently closed for reconstruction and will re-open Aug. 31. A detour will be posted. Construction will also reduce eastbound and westbound I-94 to a single lane between 23 Mile and County Line roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Road work on northbound Gratiot Avenue will also force traffic to a single lane from Harrington Road to Welts Street from 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Monday. Weekend Road Work Tears Up Gratiot at Harrington, Reduces I-94 to One Lane North of 23 Mile

The orange barrels return this weekend, as some of our major thoroughfares go under construction once again. Here's a look at the sections you may want to avoid until Monday. I-94 (EB/WB 23 Mile to County Line) Eastbound and westbound I-94 will have a single lane open between 23 Mile and County Line roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday for ongoing resurfacing work. M-3 (Gratiot Ave) Northbound Gratiot will be reduced to a single lane from Harrington to Welts roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing road work. If your weekend plans include cruising along Hall Road, be aware that two lanes of eastbound Hall Road between Van Dyke and Hayes Road will be closed starting Saturday night. The lanes will close at 9 p.m. Saturday and remain closed until 5 a.m. Tuesday for pavement repair, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. In Macomb County, the M-19 (New Haven Road) entrance ramp to westbound I-94, and the M-29 (23 Mile Road) exit from westbound I-94 will be closed until late July for extensive pavement repair. 3,000 Plus Volunteer Groups Take to State Highways to Toss Some Trash

The second Adopt-A-Highway cleanup of the year will take place July 14-22 across Michigan.

If you spot volunteers picking up trash along the highway this weekend, give them a friendly thumb’s up, they’re saving you $1.5 million in taxes. Starting Saturday, July 14, some 3,200 volunteer groups are expected to hit the roadsides cleaning up litter along more than 7,200 miles of Michigan highway and saving state taxpayers an estimated $1.5 million in cleanup costs. “Volunteers in the Adopt-A-Highway program perform a tremendous public service," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle, in a prepared statement. "They take great pride in their communities, and help MDOT concentrate its limited resources on repairing roads and bridges." Construction Alert: 23 Mile Entrance/Exit Ramps to WB I-94 Closed This Weekend

Both the 23 Mile Road entrance and exit ramps to westbound I-94 will be closed Friday night through Monday morning for ongoing construction.

In Macomb County, the entrance ramp from 23 Mile Road to westbound I-94, and the westbound I-94 exit ramp to 23 Mile Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for ongoing construction, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.  Detours will be posted using M-19 (New Haven Road) and 26 Mile Road. In other construction news, the stretch of 24 Mile Road between Jewell and Schoenherr remains closed as work crews continue to repair a broken water main. It is unknown when the road will reopen.
