Macomb Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against DIA

The plaintiffs said they filed the lawsuit against the Detroit museum after they were charged for an exhibit.

A Macomb County Circuit Court judge on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit filed by five county residents against the Detroit Institute of Arts, according to court records. Plaintiffs Simon Haddad of Clinton Township, Leon Drolet of Macomb Township, Judy and Dennis Buchholtz of Warren and Philis DeSaele of Sterling Heights alleged in the lawsuit they were denied free admission Dec. 1 to the Faberge exhibit—which they contend violated terms of a tri-county millage. Judge John Foster's opinion, including the denial to amend their pleadings, means the case is closed, the Detroit Free Press reported. According to the Art Institute Service Agreement between the Macomb County Art Institute Authority and the DIA, the museum would provide "unlimited, …

If it was only a matter of insolvent private institutions being bailed out by the taxpayers, that would be bad enough, but it's even more insidious than that. Here we have a Director helping himself to a salary and benefit package just south of half a million per year that we now subsidize. I think the person running the Louvre in Paris makes about a fourth of that. Let them eat cake! Kind of …   more ›

Macomb County residents with outstanding bench warrants for overdue child support payments are encouraged to pay up by Dec. 10 or face arrest.

The Macomb County Sheriff and Circuit Court are giving individuals who are overdue on their child support payments fair warning to either pay up by next week or face arrest. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham and Chief Circuit Court Judge David Viviano annouced Wednesday that their offices would be conducting a four-day sweep in an effort to arrest those who are delinquent on their child support payments and have outstanding bench warrants. Sheriff Wickersham’s Friend of the Court Enforcement Unit will devote extra resources to identifying and contacting these individuals from Dec. 10 through Dec. 13. Wickersham and Viviano encourage residents with overdue payments to visit the Friend of the Court Office prior to the sweep to make …

Absent Prisoner Delays Sentencing in Macomb Twp. Murder, Leaves Victim’s Family Without Closure

The sentencing of Joseph T. Reiner, 29, who was convicted of first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and home invasion Sept. 14, was postponed Oct. 31 for another two weeks.

Friends and family of Joann Eisenhardt, the Macomb Township woman who was brutally stabbed in a 2011 home invasion, had hoped to leave the Macomb County Circuit Court Wednesday with a sense of closure upon the sentencing of her murderer, but instead they were met with disappointment and frustration. Joseph T. Reiner, the man found guilty Sept. 14 of first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and home invasion related to the stabbing and subsequent death of Eisenhardt on Feb. 23, 2011, wasn’t there. With no defendant, the sentencing was postponed. “We’re overwhelmingly frustrated,” said Howard Eisenhardt, the victim’s eldest son. “Everybody is frustrated, but there is really nothing we can do.” “This is not the first time,” he added…

Court Gives Tavern at Tina's Until Oct. 15 to Build Bypass Lane or Close

Having missed the court's previous deadline to construct the lane opposite their property on North Avenue, the Imbronone sisters now have until Oct. 15 to build the lane and reimburse Macomb for court costs accumulated during the dispute.

If owners of The Tavern at Tina’s fail to comply with the latest orders from a  Macomb County Circuit Court judge, their business will be closed on Oct. 15. Ruling in the case of TTCH Development LLC vs. Macomb Township, Judge James Biernat, Jr. ordered TTCH (Tina's owners) to build a southbound bypass lane opposite the tavern's property on North Avenue and pay court costs accumulated by Macomb Township during the dispute by 5 p.m. Oct. 15 or face closure, according to court documents. These orders stem from the January 2011 consent judgment signed by TTCH Development and Macomb Township following some three years of legal disputes. Per the consent judgment, Tina’s owners, sisters Cathy and Mary Jo Imbronone, had until June 1 to build a …

Jamie... just like it's the same people on here trying to defend the indefensible actions of the Imbronones and their buddy John Johnson? A few people have referenced Tina's Country House, which is a long-standing business...they've been catering there for years and years, and by all accounts doing a good job. This fiasco started when they decided to buy the old Mutt & Jeff's and open a bar/…   more ›

Judge James Biernat, Jr. issued the order Wednesday morning following a status conference between the parties involved in the case of TTCH Development LLC vs. Macomb Township. I heard from someone who was in Court one day that when Tina's Tavern said they could not comply because they didn't have the money, the Judge quipped, "then how much money do you have for all those signs I see everywhere." Well, that is a campaign right? So those may be donations. But wait, the Macomb County Clerk's office shows a loan from Cathy Imbronone to her own campaign. http://…   more ›

Jury Convicts Sterling Heights, Shelby Men of Assaulting, Imprisoning Dakota Students

A jury convicted Vincent Bosca and Allen Brontkowski Thursday on charges of extortion, unlawful imprisonment, assault and felony firearm related to a June 2011 incident, in which three teens were beaten and held against their will in Bosca's home.

Two men from Sterling Heights and Shelby Township were convicted Thursday on charges of assault, unlawful imprisonment, extortion and felony firearm stemming from their involvement in a June 2011 attack on four Dakota High School students. A jury found both Vincent Bosca, 46, of Sterling Heights, and Allen Brontkowski, 46, of Shelby Township, guilty of multiple charges that guarantee at least two years in prison. A third man involved in the assault, Gerald H. King Jr., 46 of Sterling Heights, plead guilty to the same 10 counts originally faced by Brontkowski and testified against the two men last week. Following Court Ruling to Shut Down Dispensary Operations, Big Daddy's Says It's Leaving Chesterfield

The embattled business is leaving Macomb County within the next couple weeks.

After Chesterfield Township and the Michigan Attorney General's Office won the legal battle to shut down dispensary operations at Big Daddy's Hydroponics, the controversial business said Thursday it's leaving Chesterfield Township. Within the next couple weeks, hydroponic supplies will be moved to different Big Daddy's buildings and the township business, along with its currently closed medical marijuana distribution center, will seek to relocate outside of Macomb County. “We will find another community that’s friendly to us,” Big Daddy's spokesman Rick Thompson said. "We can’t stay where we’re not wanted – even though the people wanted us, the police did not.” The court ruling would have allowed the business to continue to sell …

It is more than just a 'lost business' it is a moral issue - legitimate patients for the MMMP are allowed to acquire their medicine - and without a decent CG or reliable grow - they are left with finding meds on the street.
