The Macomb Township Parks and Recreation Department will hold its “Egg” Stravaganza on Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m., according to its Facebook page. The Easter-themed event, which will be held at the Macomb Township Recreation Center, features games, crafts, treats, live animals, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Farmer John will provide entertainment. Fee is $4 for Macomb Township residents and $9 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required. The wage increase will cost Macomb Township approximately $9,800.
If you are a part-time Macomb Township Parks and Recreation Department employee, you soon will be seeing an increase in your paycheck. The Board of Trustees approved a pay rate adjustment Dec. 12 for the township’s part-time Parks and Recreation employees. The increase will cost the township $9,800 and will go into affect Jan. 1 or July 1, depending on when minimum wage changes occur. The Parks and Recreation Department employs 80-100 part-time employees depending on the season. “In 2004, when the Recreation Center opened, our philosophy was to stay 25 cents above minimum wage for our base pay,” said Sal DiCaro, Parks and Recreation director. Parks and Recreation will close park with first significant snowfall.
Last weekend’s snowfall didn’t close Macomb Corners Park, but its days open are numbered, according to Gina Muszynski, Facilities Supervisor with the Parks and Recreation Department. The first noteworthy snowfall - snow that sticks to the ground - will cause Parks and Rec to close the park, located along 25 Mile Road. That’s because maintaining the 94-acre park during the winter is a significant job in itself, Muszynski said. If the park were to stay open, a work crew would be needed to keep the 1-mile asphalt walking path, the parking lot, and other roadways clear. In addition, the bathrooms are shutdown to prevent pipes from bursting. As of Monday, the park was still open from 8 a.m. until dusk. “When we get that snow that sticks …

Did your kids’ Halloween sweets last well into Valentine’s Day last year? If that’s the case or even if you just want to get rid of some of the excess, consider donating the unwanted goodies to charity. Candy 4 Kids, offered annually by the Parks and Recreation Department, gives Macomb Township residents a chance to donate Halloween treats to the Macomb Charitable Foundation and/or the St. John Providence Health System Christmas store. Both charities distribute candy bags to needy families over the holidays. Residents may donate candy by dropping it off at the Recreation Center Nov. 1-19.
