Shelby Township native and former Miss St. Clair Shores, Angela Venditti, competed for the title of Miss America on Saturday.
Miss Michigan represented the Mitten State with pride but won't be bringing the Miss America crown home to the Motor City in 2013. Angela Venditti, of Shelby Township, competed against 52 other women Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the title of Miss America. Miss New York, Mallory Hytes Hagan, was ultimately crowned and will be the recipient of a $50,000 scholarship. Venditti arrived in Las Vegas earlier this week to take part in a series of preliminary competitions leading up to the Jan. 12 pageant. She did not advance to the semifinal round. Miss Michigan will try to outshine 52 other women tonight at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to become Miss America. Angela Venditti, of Shelby Township, has been competing all week in preliminary competitions leading up to the pageant at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12. The pageant, hosted by Chris Harrison and Brooke Burke-Charvet, will be broadcast on ABC-TV nationally and on WXYZ-Channel 7 locally. Venditti, who was Miss St. Clair Shores when she was crowned Miss Michigan in June, has a platform of "Above the Influence: Keeping Kids Drug Free." Patch will have results after the pageant. Vita Venditti left Tuesday for Las Vegas to watch her daughter, Miss Michigan Angela Venditti, participate in the Miss America Pageant. The proud mother told Fox 2 in an interview that the Shelby Township resident and former Miss St. Clair Shores didn't participate in her first pageant until after high school and is following in her mother's footsteps. Angela volunteered as a teen at C.A.R.E., where her mother works, which is an organization which helps families affected by substance abuse. Macomb County native Angela Venditti is scheduled to leave today for Las Vegas to compete in the Miss America Pageant.
After years of dreaming, and months of preparation, Miss Michigan Angela Venditti begins her journey today to be crowned Miss America. Venditti, of Shelby Township, was Miss St. Clair Shores when she was crowned Miss Michigan in June. Since the Miss Michigan Pageant in Muskegeon, she has been preparing for the Miss America Pageant Jan. 12 at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. "It has been a whirlwind," said Venditti, who has traveled thousands of miles and covered nearly the entire state. "There has been a lot of planning for Miss America." Kelly Oles, named first runner-up in the 2011 Miss Michigan pageant three weeks ago, was crowned Miss Oakland County 2011 Saturday night at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills. Miss Oakland County was her first local pageant when she first got involved in the Miss America program in 2009.
