The Huron-Clinton Metroparks Board of Commissioners appointed John P. McCulloch as director of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks at their December 13 Board meeting. McCulloch started his new post December 21. “I’m honored and truly humbled by the Board’s support,” said McCulloch. “I look forward to serving as the director of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks, a nationally-recognized regional park system that provides exceptional outdoor recreation and educational experiences for the people of southeast Michigan.” McCulloch, of Royal Oak, is both a CPA and an attorney. The MIGreatArtist competition opens Friday to residents of Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Genessee, Lapeer and St. Clair counties.
A new arts competition launching Friday aims to showcase the works of great artists in a six-county southeast Michigan region. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Park West Gallery CEO Albert Scaglione announced the MIGreatArtist competition during a press conference held Wednesday at the Southfield gallery. Scaglione said any artist who is serious about his or her work should consider entering. "This is for you," he said. "You don't need to have any prior history of exhibiting. Motorists across the state will see fewer road construction delays during the holiday weekend and are advised of ongoing projects.
More than a million motorists mapping their Memorial weekend route across the state can expect fewer traffic delays. The Michigan Department of Transportation lifted traffic restrictions on 75 of 142 road projects statewide from 3 p.m. Friday, May 27, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, according to a Wednesday announcement. "The Memorial Day holiday is a great opportunity for motorists to experience and discover the natural beauty of our great state," State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle said in a prepared statement. Steudle advises drivers to continue paying attention to the roads, wear seat belts and obey traffic laws.
