Chippewa Valley Schools intends to place security guards at all its school buildings for the remainder of the 2012-13 academic year.
Security is changing once again in Chippewa Valley Schools, with plans now underway to place a security guard and possibly install a buzzer entry system at every school building in the district. On the Monday following the mass shooting in Newtown, CT, Chippewa Valley ordered all of its buildings into modified lockdown. This state of heightened security meant locked main entrances and interior classroom doors, cancellation of outdoor recess and the presence of greeters at each main door to check visitors’ photo identification. Rumors of violence have circulated in L'Anse Creuse and Chippewa Valley schools, but the districts have chosen to heighten their security rather than cancel classes.
Despite snow in the forecast, the weather wasn't the reason several Michigan school districts canceled classes Friday. The cancellation was due, in part, to rumors of violence at the schools. On Wednesday, LCPS Superintendent Jackie Johnston sent out a message to parents informing them of rumors that had been going around in the school. "These rumors have been thoroughly investigated by administration with the help of local authorities. All rumors are unfounded." Johnston stressed that the district is …

In a letter to parents and staff Friday, New Haven Community Schools Superintendent Keith Wunderlich expressed his condolences for the victims and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and announced that Monday would bring a complete review of the district's own security measures. "First thing Monday morning I am having a conference call with the principals to review all our security procedures," Wunderlich wrote. "A review is always a good thing.
