The 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base will conduct a series of tests of emergency sirens at the facility Thursday as part of a tornado drill on the base. These tests will take place throughout the day, and are part of on-going tests, drills and exercises "to maintain a high degree of readiness to respond to both military requirements and to be able to respond to natural disasters both on and off the base," according to a release.
The Museum and Air Park is at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, accessible by vehicle through the Main Gate at the intersection of M-59 and Jefferson Avenue.
History and aviation buffs can rejoice at the season opening of the Selfridge Military Air Museum this month. The museum on the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township is open to the public from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays, Independence Day and Memorial Day, now through October 27. History has taken flight on a new website celebrating the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. The website (http://www.127wg.ang.af.mil/resources/history&heritage.asp) chronicles nearly 100 years of history for both the base and the 127th Wing. The site highlights the story of Fox Able One, which was part of the Berlin Airlift in 1948. The website also provides information on the Tuskegee Airmen and Selfridge’s role in the response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Three L'Anse Creuse Schools were closed Tuesday after a report of a suspicious person in L'Anse Creuse High School.
Classes were canceled Tuesday morning at three L'Anse Creuse after a person in military gear was seen in L'Anse Creuse High School, according to a report by WJBK-TV. L'Anse Creuse High School, L'Anse Creuse Middle School-Central and Graham Elementary were all closed as the Macomb County Sheriff's Office investigated the report. Rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base conducted rescue training Wednesday on ice-covered Lake St. Clair. People who live, work and visit in the area surrounding Selfridge Air National Guard Base may hear sirens between 9-11 a.m. Friday.
Selfridge Air National Guard Base airmen will conduct a series of tests from 9 - 11 a.m. Friday using a "giant voice" and siren system on the facility. Base officials describe the “giant voice” as a series of outdoor loudspeakers on the base that can be used to notify personnel on the base of a variety of emergency situations. The sirens and announcements may be heard by those who live, work and are visiting the area around Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
