Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in Macomb Township?

Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Macomb Township and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. Small Business Saturday: Boutiques Grab For Holiday Shoppers with Deep Discounts

Boutiques in Shelby and Utica are hoping to lure in holiday shoppers who are opting out of Black Friday with deep discounts, free gifts and even school fundraisers.

While Black Friday may be known as the busiest shopping day of the year for large retailers, independently owned boutiques in Shelby Township are hoping the next day, Small Business Saturday, will be their busiest day of the year. Small Business Saturday is a day that is designated nationally to supporting local busineses. Most boutiques in Shelby Township are taking full advantage of the holiday shopping frenzy and offering deep discounts this weekend, and some are even throwing in free gifts, to lure tired Hall Road shoppers back to the mile roads. “I don’t try to compete with them.
