Stabbing-Turned-Murder Case Moves Forward One Year Later

The murder case against Joseph T. Reiner will finally move to Macomb County Circuit Court more than a year after the alleged crime was committed.

Almost one year to the day of the crime, the murder case against a Fraser man accused of brutally stabbing a Macomb Township woman will move into circuit court. Initially facing counts of felony home invasion and assault with intent to commit murder, the charges against Joseph T. Reiner, 28, were upgraded to murder in December 2011 following the death of the victim, 69-year-old Joann Eisenhardt. Although DNA evidence has failed to link Reiner to Eisenhardt–as Macomb County prosecutors had hoped–the murder charge against him will stand based on Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz's testimony Wednesday in 41A District Court. Spitz testified that the double stabbing Eisenhardt suffered Feb. 23, 2011, did contribute to her death in…

Misplaced Prisoner Forces Postponement of Macomb Murder Case

The assault-turned-murder case against Joseph T. Reiner will near the one year mark in district court following an unexpected adjournment Wednesday.

The absence of the man charged in the Feb. 23 murder of a Macomb Township woman forced Judge Douglas P. Shepherd to postpone the case yet again today in 41A District Court. Joseph T. Reiner, 28, was scheduled to make his final appearance in district court today to hear the testimony of Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz and see his case bound over to circuit court. But Reiner never arrived. As a result of miscommunication within the Michigan Department of Corrections, Reiner was transferred from the Macomb Correctional Facility to two other locations, neither of which received the transportation paperwork needed to ensure Reiner's on-time arrival to court today. "It's 45 minutes past the appointed date and time ... I think it's …

Macomb Township Stabbing Suspect to Face Murder Charge

Preliminary review from the Macomb County medical examiner was sufficient to lead 41A Court Judge Douglas P. Shepherd to charge Joseph T. Reiner with felony murder.

A 6-inch stack of medical records was all the evidence Macomb County prosecutors needed to have Macomb Township stabbing suspect Joseph T. Reiner's charges upgraded to felony murder Wednesday in 41A District Court.  The 28-year-old Reiner, who is alleged to have stabbed Macomb Township resident Joann Eisenhardt in her home Feb. 23, now faces three charges: home invasion, assault with intent to commit murder, and felony murder. Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz will appear in district court Jan. 25 to testify that Eisenhardt's death was a direct result of the injuries inflicted by Reiner in February. Reiner is alledged to have stabbed Eisenhardt twice in the neck with kitchen knives. However, during Wednesday's hearing, Judge …

Prosecution Awaits Autopsy to Push for Murder Charge in Stabbing Case

Pending the results of the Macomb County medical examiner's autopsy report, Joseph T. Reiner could face a felony murder charge in December. Reiner is the suspect in the Feb. 23 stabbing of a Macomb Township woman.

When stabbing suspect Joseph T. Reiner, 27, appeared in 41A District Court Wednesday, members of the courtroom found it hard to ignore Reiner's newest facial features, namely two tattooed devil horns on his forehead. "It's surprising to me," said prosecuting attorney William Cataldo. "He definitely chose to appear in court with devil horns on his forehead ... I've never seen this before, someone try to create the persona of evil. It presents a negative appearance." Reiner, who is currently facing charges of home invasion and attempted murder stemming from the Feb. 23 stabbing of a Macomb Township woman, could soon find his charges upgraded to felony murder. With the Sept. 20 death of the victim, Joanne Eisenhardt, 69, Cataldo is awaiting …

Macomb Stabbing Victim Dies Months After Brutal Attack

Macomb Township resident Joanne Eisenhardt was stabbed twice in the neck by an intruder on Feb. 23 inside her Fairchild Road home. Suspect Joseph T. Reiner of Fraser is in jail awaiting his next court date for his alleged involvement in the attack.

The 69-year-old Macomb Township woman who was brutally stabbed Feb. 23 in her home died on Tuesday, and the man charged in her attack is now expected to face a felony murder charge in addition to a pending charge of felony home invasion. William Cataldo, Macomb County chief of homicide and prosecutor on the case, said he believes Joann Eisenhardt's death was a direct result of the injuries suffered in the February attack. "She has been in the hospital and hospice for the most part continuously since her injury," Cataldo said. He added that Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz has been asked to perform an autopsy to confirm whether the initial injuries Eisenhardt suffered ultimately caused her death. The medical examiner's conclusion…

Court Postpones Key Decision in Macomb Stabbing Case

Judge Douglas P. Shepherd was to make a key decision in the case of Joseph T. Reiner, the suspect in the Feb. 23 stabbing of a Macomb woman, but the case has been postponed. The next court date has not been set.

Today's court date for Joseph T. Reiner, the suspect in the Feb. 23 stabbing of a Macomb Township woman, has been postponed once again following an adjournment Sept. 9. A Fraser resident, Reiner, 27, is alleged to have broken into 69-year-old Joann Eisenhardt’s Fairchild Road home on the morning of Feb. 23 and stabbed her twice in the neck with kitchen knives before taking two rings from the victim and fleeing the scene. Judge Douglas P. Shepherd, of the 41A District Court, was to make a key decision today regarding the prosecutor's attempt to use the testimony provided to police by a now-dead witness in the case. Because Eisenhardt remains in the hospital as a result of her injuries and is unable to identify Reiner as her attacker, …
