To celebrate Hockey Day in Michigan, Suburban Ice Macomb will hold a free hockey clinic on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 4:30 p.m. The one-hour event—Try Hockey for Free—is open to children of all ages and first-time players only, according to the the Suburban Ice Macomb website. Equipment, including skates and sticks, will be available at the clinic. Pre-registration is required, either online or by calling 586-992-8600.

The Michigan State hockey team will an open practice and autograph session from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Macomb Township ice arena. The event is free and fans will be given posters of the team to use during the autograph portion. When Suburban Ice Macomb opened its doors in 2005, it did so as the first of several commercial developments planned for the Macomb Town Center. Unfortunately, with the economic downturn, those plans never materialized and seven years later, the arena remains the only non-government building in the area. That Suburban Ice has not only survived but expanded many of its program offerings during challenging economic times can be credited almost entirely to the continued support of the Macomb Township community. And now to thank those families that have made the arena success, Suburban Ice is hosting a seventh birthday party to which the entire community is invited.
