ROAD CLOSED: Water Main Break Closes 24 Mile Between Jewell and Schoenherr

All lanes of 24 Mile Road between Jewell and Schoenherr remain closed Wednesday as work crews continue to repair a broken water main.

The stretch of 24 Mile Road between Jewell and Schoenherr roads in Shelby Township will remain closed today as work crews continue to repair a ruptured water main. Shelby Township Fire Chief James Swinkowski told Patch that 24 Mile Road would remain closed for at least a few more days to allow crews to repair the break and the surrounding roadway that was damaged. "Even though you can see the concrete it may not be safe to walk on it," Swinkowski said, adding that the area had suffered severe soil erosion. Water started gushing from the broken 36-inch Detroit water main before noon Tuesday. Residents who live on 24 Mile Road between Jewell and Schoenherr are being allowed to enter and exit, but Swinkowski said there are about 25 homes in a…

Supervisor: Macomb Township Not Under Boil Water Advisory

Macomb Township has issued a complete outdoor watering ban in response to the water main break on 24 Mile Road in Shelby Township but is not under a boil water advisory at this time.

Contrary to some reports, Macomb Township is not one of the communities under a boil water advisory due to the broken water main at 24 Mile Road in Shelby Township. Patch contacted Supervisor Mark Grabow at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday to confirm the township was not under such an advisory, although the ban on outdoor watering remains in effect. "Our water and sewer guys have been busting their tails all day to keep the water pressure up," Grabow said, adding that pressures have returned to approximately 45 pounds per square inch. "We are not in a boil water alert at all." However, Macomb has issued a complete outdoor watering ban as a result of the break.
