Macomb Township Elections 2012: Republicans Sweep Local Races, Police Millage Renewed

Macomb Township voted Republicans into every local office save that of District 9 county commissioner.

Macomb Township swept red Tuesday, with Republicans winning all but one local race. Winning 25,133 votes Tuesday, Trustee Janet Dunn will become the township's next supervisor and the first woman to hold this position. Current Clerk Michael Koehs, Treasurer Karen Goodhue and trustees Dino Bucci, Roger M. Krzeminski and Nancy Nevers all won re-election, with newcomer Clifford Freitas taking the fourth trustee position. It should be noted that there were no Democratic candidates on the ballot for township board seats. The lone Democrat to win in Macomb Township was District 9 County Commissioner Fred Miller, who defeated Republican Juliana Sabatini. 5 Election Day Rules

Here are five rules you need to know before voting on election day.

The use of video cameras, still cameras and other recording devices is prohibited in the polls when they are open for voting. This ban includes still cameras and other recording features built into many cell phones and applies to all voters, challengers, poll watchers and election workers. Certain exceptions are made for credentialed members of the news media.  Under Michigan election law, a ballot is rejected if deliberately exposed. A voter who deliberately exposes their ballot will not be allowed to vote in that election. This includes clothing and buttons as well as material such as pamphlets, fliers and stickers. Michigan GOP Hopefuls Make Final Macomb Bus Stop to Fire up Voters

Utica was one of the last stops for the state GOP's "Believe in Michigan - Jobs First" bus tour of Michigan.

Nearly a dozen Republican candidates arrived in an over-sized Mitt Romney bus Monday morning to fire up the volunteers who have been working at the Macomb-Utica Victory Center since the beginning of the campaign season. “48-hours ago we were down two points in the polls. This morning we’re up one. Keep working those phones and knocking on those doors and we’ll bring it home,” said Bobby Schostak, chairman of the Michigan GOP. Michigan has 25 Republican victory centers across the state. Between the GOP volunteers and candidates, Schostak said more than 1 million doors have been knocked in Michigan to convince voters to vote Republican. ‘We’re Prepared to Ante Up’ for International Bridge, Says Canadian Consul General

Consul General Roy Norton joined Gov. Rick Snyder in Sterling Heights last week to explain the reasoning behind his country's willingness to cover all costs and responsibility for a new bridge between Detroit and Windsor.

Although Canada does not make it a habit of "providing free infrastructure to developed countries," Canadian Consul General Roy Norton said when it comes to building a new bridge between Detroit and Windsor, his country has no choice. Norton joined Gov. What You Need to Know About Voting Absentee in Macomb Township

The clerk's office will be open Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accommodate last-minute absentee voters wishing to cast ballots in the Nov. 6 election.

If you’re not able to get to the polls Nov. 6, you still have time to vote absentee. Macomb Township residents have until 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 to request an absentee ballot from the clerk’s office. Completed absent voter ballots can be mailed to the township clerk or delivered personally to: Michael D. Koehs, CMC, Clerk; 54111 Broughton Road, Macomb, MI 48042 The clerk's office must receive absentee ballots by mail or in-person delivery by the close of the polls Nov. 6 (8 p.m.) for these votes to be counted.
