Hot, Hot, Hot! Excessive Heat Watch Issued for Macomb Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for southeastern Michigan Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees, but feel as high as 107.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for southeastern Michigan Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees during the afternoon. It's not expected to be excessively humid, but dew points in the mid-60s could make it feel like it's anywhere from 102 to 107 degrees outside. The good news is there's a cold front coming in that should provide some relief from what NWS calls "dangerous heat" for the rest of the week. However, the excessive heat watch remains in effect all day Tuesday and NWS recommends that people drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Dangerous Heat Expected in Macomb This Week

The area is under a heat advisory and an air quality alert, with heat indexes expected to be in the 100s later this week.

Macomb County is expected to endure its worst combination of heat and humidity to hit southeast Michigan in more than 15 years, according to the National Weather Service. The area is under a heat advisory and an air quality alert for the entire region as heat indexes are expected to be in the 90s on Tuesday—a slight drop from Monday—but exceed 100 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. The heat index is a combination of temperature and relative humidity. "The heat wave this week is expected to be the longest duration of hot and humid conditions since July of 1995," the alert said.
