23 Mile Bridge, Hayes Road Are Among 2013 Road Projects

Pack your patience on the roads this year by keeping these construction projects in mind.

It's a new year with new sets of orange barrels cropping up all over Macomb County. Here are the big road projects to keep in mind before you get behind the wheel. Overall, the county is scheduled to tackle more than $38 million in road projects this year. The county is also planning annual maintenance projects across the county from May 2013 to September 2013.

Long-awaited road projects, new elected officials and the return of a favorite concert venue are coming in 2013.

Woodberry Estates Residents to Pay $848 Extra for Repair of Sidewalks, Roads

Macomb Township will spread the $848 cost to residents over three years, per the terms of a newly-established special assessment district for the subdivision.

Residents in Woodberry Estates will have to reach into their wallets for a little extra over the next three years to cover the cost of repairs to their subdivision's streets and crosswalks. The Macomb Township Board of Trustees approved the details of a newly-established special assessment district (SAD) for the complex on Dec. 26, which will levy an $848 charge per parcel over the next three years at .5 percent interest per year. The cost per parcel was previously projected to be $973. A special assessment district is a term used to designate a unique charge the township can assess against real estate parcels for certain public projects. Extra $973 Proposed for Macomb Subdivision to Keep Up Sidewalks, Roads

Residents of Woodberry Estates are invited to attend a second public hearing Dec. 26 on the special assessment district proposed for road repairs and improvements.

Residents in Woodberry Estates may soon have an extra charge on their tax bills. The Macomb Township Board of Trustees is set to decide the details of a newly-established special assessment district (SAD) for the complex on Dec. 26.  A special assessment district is a term used to designate a unique charge the township can assess against real estate parcels for certain public projects. In the case of Woodberry Estates, the SAD will be used to repair and repave streets and crosswalks.  A public hearing took place Nov. 28 during the regular Board of Trustees meeting and, at that time, no residents from Woodberry Estates expressed their concern about the project. County Plans $16 Million in Macomb Township Road Projects for 2013

Projects include widening Hayes from 21 to 23 Mile, paving portions of Fairchild, 22 Mile and 24 Mile Roads, and replacing the 23 Mile Road bridge west of North Avenue.

Macomb Township will be the beneficiary of more than $16 million in road projects next year, including the widening of Hayes Road between 21 and 23 Mile and the replacement of the 23 Mile Road bridge west of North Avenue. Macomb County officials announced the county's 2013 construction schedule during a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday to celebrate the reopening of Cass Avenue between Groesbeck and Gratiot. Construction at Romeo Plank and Hall to Continue Through Friday

Crews are expected to complete reconstruction work on Romeo Plank Road, north of Hall Road, early Saturday morning at the latest.

Construction on Romeo Plank Road north of Hall is causing headaches for local drivers as the major thoroughfare has been reduced to one lane in each direction. Orange barrels have littered the area all week and are expected to remain in place until Saturday morning at the latest, according to the Macomb County Department of Roads. Road crews are reconstructing the road and were pouring the last of the new concrete on Thursday. One lane should remain open in each direction for the duration of the project.

Weekend Construction to Close Multiple Lanes on I-94 North of 23 Mile

Most of this weekend's road work takes place on I-94, stretching from southern Clinton Township to northern Chesterfield.

More orange barrels will clutter our major thoroughfares this weekend and into next week. Here's a look at the sections you may want to avoid.  I-94 Eastbound and westbound I-94 will have single and double lane closures between Shook Road and M-59 from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday for maintenance work. Eastbound and westbound I-94 will also have a single lane closed between 23 Mile and County Line roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday for ongoing road work. M-29 (23 Mile Road) Northbound and southbound M-29 between Baker and County Line roads will have a single lane closure from 8 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday for utility work.
