Chris Nishiwaki is a freelance writer with over 20 years of experience in journalism. He started his journalism career as the tennis beat writer for the Bellevue Journal American. He has gone on to cover the food and wine industry, the Washington state legislature and professional and local sports for the Lewiston News Tribune in Idaho and The Kansas City Star. He has also appeared in <i>Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, Gourmet, Seattle Magazine, Northwest Palate, Colors NW</i>, Pacific, The Seattle Times, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Northwest Asian Weekly, Northwest Nikkei, The Northshore Citizen and several other publications. Chris was also the Editor of <i>The North American Post</i>.

 

A food and wine aficionado, he served on <i>Seattle</i><i> Magazine&#39;s</i> Best Restaurants Selection Panel, the Committee of the Auction of Washington Wines benefiting Children&#39;s Hospital &amp; Regional Medical Center, the Steering Committee of the &#34;Art of Dining&#34; benefiting the Women&#39;s Funding Alliance and the PONCHO Wine Auction Committee. He chaired the wine program for the &#34;Art of Dining&#34; and the &#34;One Life at a Time&#34; Gala benefiting Olive Crest Homes &amp; Services for Abused &amp; Neglected Children.

 

Chris serves on the Organizing Committee of The Seattle Times Media Access Workshop, the Unity 2004 National Conference Auction Committee and the Asian American Journalists Association-Seattle Chapter. He served on the Organizing Committee of the Unity 99&#39; National Conference, the Selection Committee of the Dart Award for Journalism and Trauma, and the Northwest Journalists of Color Scholarship Committee.

 

Chris served on governing boards and committees at INTIMAN Theatre, Artist Trust, Wing Luke Asian Museum, Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, Women&#39;s Funding Alliance, Rainbow Bookfest, People of Color in Philanthropy, Business and Engineering Activists Network, Seattle Girls&#39; School, Statewide Poverty Action Network, Reinvesting in Youth, University of Washington Alumni Association, National Coalition Building Institute, Seattle Race Conference, Alpha Phi Omega Pacific Northwest Alumni Association, Social Justice Fund Northwest, Seattle Rape Relief, Charitable Choice Coalition, Community Health Charities, Planned Parenthood Voices, Associated Students of the University of Washington Sexual Assault Awareness, Ipintombi Dancers, Guguletu Township, South Africa.

 

Chris was the administrator for Adolescent Medicine at Children&#39;s Hospital &amp; Regional Medical Center and the University of Washington. While at Children&#39;s Hospital he served on the hospital&#39;s Diversity Committee and Communications Committee.

 

Chris Nishiwaki graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in Journalism and Sociology. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina he resides on Mercer Island, Washington.
